| ‘Captain Marvel’ Director Shortlist Includes Niki Caro and Jennifer Kent
Last night Brie Larson was reported to be in talks to play Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios’ first female-led superhero film. The superhero studio has been casting some pretty high-profile names in the past, and a couple of Oscar-winning ones as well, so if they manage to sign Larson on it just be another excellent casting notch on their belt. The actress suddenly shot to the front of the line stepping ahead of favorites like Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson. Now there are reports that Marvel has already set their sights on a director for the film. Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) and Niki Caro (MarFarland, USA) are reportedly in the running for the job. More on the story below.

It’s been long wondered which actress would be chosen to take on the title role in Marvel’s Captain Marvel, and we now might have an answer to that question. It’s being reported that Brie Larson, who just scored herself an Academy Award for her work playing a mother trying to take care of her son while being held captive in the simply titled Room, is the frontrunner for the role and is now in negotiations with Marvel to see if a deal can be agreed upon.

| ‘Inside Out’ Scribe Meg LeFauve Briefly Talks ‘Captain Marvel’ Draft |
 |

There are a lot of reasons why Meg LeFauve should be celebrating. Inside Out was an instant hit with critics and audiences when it was released last year, making everyone, especially me, well up with tears. And after being recognized and honored with numerous awards, the script, which she co-wrote with co-director Pete Docter, and storyboard supervisor Josh Cooley, has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. So as some are awaiting the results of Hollywood’s biggest night, others are anxiously awaiting to hear more about Marvel Studio’s Captain Marvel. We are still a good two-plus years away from the release of Captain Marvel. So far no one has been named director, and the studio has yet to find its lead to play the title role. Considering the film is in the very early stages of development we probably won’t be getting that kind of news anytime soon. But LeFauve did offer little nuggets of information in regards to the development of the script, and the pressures that come with writing a female superhero and proving female superheroes can carry the full weight of a movie on their own, and so much more. Check out what she had to say below.

| ‘Captain Marvel’: Is Marvel Getting Nervous About Their First Female Superhero Movie? |
 |

On Thursday, Marvel Studios made the surprising announcement that they had scheduled an Ant-Man sequel entitled Ant-Man and the Wasp to be released on the plum July 6, 2018 date that had once belonged to Black Panther, which saw its release moved up to February 16 of that year. Meanwhile, the studio’s first female-oriented feature, the cosmic adventure Captain Marvel, once again had its release bumped now going from November 2, 2018 to March 8, 2019. Captain Marvel has been in development at the studio for years, but it wasn’t until October 2014 when Marvel chairman Kevin Feige formally announced that the film would be released on July 6, 2018 as part of their Phase Three slate. Then Marvel and Sony managed to work out a deal over the rights to Spider-Man and yet another reboot was given the green light for a July 2017 release in between Marvel’s offerings for that year – Guardians of the Galaxy V.2 and Thor: Ragnarok. As a result, Captain Marvel lost its opening day to Black Panther and was moved back to the November 2, 2018 slot that it was recently forced to vacate.

“You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy…” This weekend the most diverse collection of individuals on our planet have gathered together in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center for this year’s New York Comic-Con. And a group of our contributing GoDs — (Athena, Danny, Sarah, Max, Eve, and me, Dave3, to be exact) — are here to provide coverage of all the goings-on of NYCC 2015. Among my favorite things to do is walk the convention floor, checking out all the goodies, meeting artists, creators, exhibitors, fans, and cosplayers. And of course, taking pictures along the way. And I spent the majority of today doing exactly that: perusing the aisles of the convention floor, taking in the sites, the sounds, and the smells of the ever-growing yearly Geekdom collective. Today’s highlights include a run-in with the Baseball Furies from The Warriors, Princess Sparklefist herself Captain Marvel, and the amazingly amusing webslinger amalgam, Spider-Met! Anyhoo, hit the jump and check out my photo galleries from today.
