Lucille Ball

Cate Blanchett is now attached to star in a Lucille Ball biopic that is being written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, Moneyball).

Of course with that kind of combination it is expected that the film is being geared towards a major awards campaign. The film will cover the 20-year marriage of Ball and Desi Arnaz, and presumably also their TV show I Love Lucy. It will be produced by their two children Lucy Arnaz Jr. and Desi Arnaz Jr.

More on this story below.

Disney's Cinderella live-action film 2015 Lily James

Cinderella
Director: Kenneth Branagh
Cast: Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden, Stellan Skarsgard, Holliday Grainger, Sophie McShera, Derek Jacobi and Helena Bonham Carter
Walt Disney Pictures
Release date: March 13, 2015

What I, a grown man, think of Disney’s new live-action Cinderella film is really irrelevant. So let’s go straight to the target audience: Charlotte, my 4-year-old daughter. “Char, what did you think of Cinderella?” “Cinderella had a pink dress, then she had a blue dress, and then gets married and has a white dress.”

Suffice it to say, the target crowd will lap up this latest retelling of the classic story, made timeless in 1950.

Cinderella live action movie Cinderella (Lily James) at Ball

Disney Studios is gearing up for its first official outing of what will no doubt be a big 2015 for them studio its live action adaptation of Cinderella coming March 13, 2015. In this third trailer for the upcoming film, released today at the stroke of midnight, we get a little more of the story beyond the well-known animated Disney film and more of the wicked Cate Blanchett. The film hopes to expand into the motivations of the Prince’s father and perhaps some behind-the-scenes ill-willed teamwork with Cinderella’s stepmother and stepsisters.

Check out the new trailer here below.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Movie Review

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Starring Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Orlando Bloom
Warner Brothers
Release Date: December 17, 2014

In what I like to call a “see it while you still can” style of reviewing movies before they leave theaters, I finally got around to catching Peter Jackson‘s final film in the The Hobbit trilogy: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

And honestly, I can say that if you loved the Lord of the Rings movies of Jackson’s, then you might indeed wanna catch this before it leaves theaters. And you need not worry if you skipped the second movie in the trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, or even the first movie, An Unexpected Journey, at this point. But I would never recommend a fan of the original book to ever see this particular film. The first two…sure…but this one, not so much. It’s complicated. Let me explain.

Christian Bale and Terrence Malick

For lovers of filmmaking as an art, Terrence Malick is a living master. Since the 1970s, he’s been a critical darling and award-winning filmmaker whose style is breathtaking, heart-wrenching, and ethereal. You can get a small taste of his dramatic and beautiful style in the new trailer for his upcoming film Knight of Cups – watch it here below.

The official synopsis is being kept mostly under lock and key, but what we do know is that Christian Bale stars as Rick, who is swept up in the lavish party lifestyle of Los Angeles and Hollywood. Best guess (after watching the trailer) is that Rick is going to have a soul-searching moment and try to escape the excess and depravity of the party life in hopes of redeeming himself, like an epic quest to become more “human” and less of the image of a man who isn’t even real. Sounds perfect for a Malick film, if you ask me.
