Dunkirk trailer header

In the past few years, Christopher Nolan has given us a taste for superhero theatrics in the Dark Knight trilogy, taken us to the various levels of dreams in Inception, and traveled through space and time in Interstellar. But his next feature is a bit more grounded in reality; in fact, it draws a bit from history.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Dunkirk, a film that follows the events of the British military operation that helped save the lives of 330,000 soldiers while on the shores of French seaport of Dunkirk. Check out the trailer below.

Guardians of the Galaxy Image

Superhero films can be a dime a dozen, especially since a lot of them come out every other if not every month of the year. So it would be hard for one to make an everlasting impression on anyone, let alone someone like Steven Spielberg.

Now, the legendary filmmaker, who is at the Cannes Film Festival to help promote is upcoming film, The BFG – check out the new trailer here – is talking about which superhero films are his favorite. And don’t worry, he is not a part of the conspiracy, as his list is a pretty nice mix from Marvel and DC. Check out which of the superhero films are his favorite below.

Christopher Nolan

Back in September, there was a report that Christopher Nolan would be releasing another film in the middle of the summer blockbuster season. Most recently, Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson talked about the importance of 70mm film, and Tarantino credited Nolan for creating a new interest in the format. During that conversation, Tarantino then said that Nolan’s next project would be using 70mm. All of this happening right after The Weinstein Company had helped retrofit 100 theaters to fit the 70mm presentation that Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight was shot in.

It only makes sense. Filmmakers like Tarantino, Anderson, Nolan, and J.J. Abrams have put an emphasis on using stock film to shoot their movies as opposed to using digital. And using the wider screen format creates a more immersive experience. Nolan shot The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and Intersteller in IMAX. But what could Nolan’s next IMAX film be? Well, a new report says that it will center on World War II’s Operation Dynamo, which helped see the evacuation of Allied Troops. More on the new project here below.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘Memento’ On Track For Remake By AMBI Pictures

Memento header

Movie remakes can be the bane of one’s existence, especially when it comes to remaking something as original and innovative as a film like Memento. The 2001 film, which was Christopher Nolan‘s second directorial effort, earned Oscar nominations for Best Writing and Best Editing, and is now heading for the remake treatment.

Memento starred Guy Pearce as the lead protagonist who is unable to form short-term memory, forcing him to tattoo clues on his body in an effort to solve his wife’s murder. But what made the film earn its Best Editing nomination was how it was presented. Audiences see the film spilt into two different parts, in a series of black-and-white scenes presented chronologically, but on the other end of that spectrum, series of color sequences are shown in reverse order.

David Goyer Defends Killing General Zod In ‘Man Of Steel’ (Again)

Michael Shannon as General Zod

At this point, one would think we have moved past the fact that Superman (Henry Cavill) killed General Zod (Michael Shannon) in Man of Steel, two years after the release of the film. So if you still harbor any ill-will over such a decision, then you are not alone. But director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer had to defend Supes killing Zod on numerous occasions, both citing that the hero was put in a difficult situation and forced to make an equally difficult decision. Whether or not you agree with this, it’s clear that Superman’s actions in Man of Steel have had a polarizing effect on DC fans.

But it appears that some still haven’t gotten over their non-killing hero killing someone in cold blood. So Goyer is once again defending Superman killing Zod, because the events leading up to that moment justify Superman’s actions and “that’s the right way to tell that story.” More on the story below.

Matt Damon in The Martian

Not every actor was born to play a superhero; we certainly saw that when Fantastic Four came out. And sometimes, the right role doesn’t come the actor’s way. For Matt Damon, the opportunity to play a superhero has passed him by, or at least that’s what he believes. While making the press rounds for Ridley Scott‘s The Martian, the actor shared his thoughts on which superhero he would like to play and who he would like to have seen be behind the camera. More on the story below.

Rumor: Christopher Nolan May Be Working On ‘Akira’ Live-Action Trilogy

Akira Header Image

The live-action adaptation of Akira has been in development hell for the better part of the last few years. Jaume Collet-Serra was attached to direct the film at one point, with Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart set to star as the film’s leads. But the project never entered production due to budgetary disagreements. In 2013, it was reported that Collet-Serra was back to direct, but not much has been heard about him and the status of the film since then. The only major development was that Daredevil season 2 showrunner Marco Ramirez was tapped to pen the new script.

Now another major development seems to be steering the live-action Akira towards production. Hot off the news that Christopher Nolan would be directing an untitled film set for a 2017 release comes word that he is in talks to produce Akira as a live-action trilogy. More on this story below.

Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan followed up his space epic Interstellar with a documentary short about the Quay Brothers, but since then his directing slate has been clean of any projects. But now we have an idea of when we will see the next Nolan film; the only thing is, we don’t have any idea what it is about.

A new report says that Warner Bros. will release an untitled Christopher Nolan film on July 21, 2017. As you can see that is right in the middle of the busy summer blockbuster season, so this won’t be just another run-of-the-mill kind of film. More on this story below.

Real Fake History The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises is one of those movies that when it came out, felt epic. The performances, the music, Bane shattering Batman’s back… it was so good, you kinda ignored the gaping plot holes. Then you watched it again and, OH, there they are. These plot holes come up big in Machinima’s Real Fake History, detailing the battle of Gotham City from Christopher Nolan’s concluding part to his Batman trilogy.
