In a key scene in Whiplash, the ferociously passionate music teacher Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), who is at once intimidating, forceful, powerful, and unapologetic, tells Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller), the young, puckish stars-in-his-eyes wannabe-one-of-the-greats jazz drummer, that one of the worst things you can say to someone is “good job.” But with this film, which has been a critical darling paramount of some of the great films of all time in the modern age, director and writer Damien Chazelle has done much, much more than a good job. In fact, he’s done an eye-opening, jaw-dropping superb one.

The Last Exorcism Part II Header

With a $67 million worldwide gross the inexpensive independent found footage horror flick The Last Exorcism was one of the surprise hits of 2010. When cheaply-produced horror films bank serious profits at the box office the immediate production of sequels is inevitable. Lionsgate, the distributor of The Last Exorcism, built its company and reputation on the back of the lucrative Saw franchise and recently launched another potential ongoing series with the success of Texas Chainsaw 3D. They are the studio to beat when it comes to low-budget fright flicks and in three months the much-anticipated sequel to Daniel Stamm’s modestly profitable tale of demonic possession will be unleashed.

Damien Chazelle To Write ‘Last Exorcism’ Sequel

This sounds totally logical, because yes, when I think of a perfect name to write a new film around the world of exorcisms, I think of the same guy who penned a heartwarming indie musical like Guy And Madeline On A Park Bench.

That’s exactly the case, as THR is reporting that Guy And Madeline director Damien Chazelle has been tapped to write the sequel to last year’s rather solid horror film, The Last Exorcism. The new film will begin production this Fall, and will follow the fall out from the first film, which followed a preacher who, with a documentary crew, gets in over their heads when a seemingly fraudulent exorcism becomes far more real than they could have expected.
