| NOT Groovy – STARZ Cancels ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’
Way back in October of 2015, I sat amongst thousands of Evil Dead fans at NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom for the Ash vs Evil Dead panel at that year’s NYCC. After giving us a screening of the pilot episode, Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi spoke frankly and honestly about why they chose the STARZ network for the next phase in the Evil Dead universe and how the fans would ultimately decide the fate of the show. Simply put, after three seasons, the viewership just wasn’t there. With two episodes to go in what’s been an absolutely incredible Season 3, STARZ announced today it would not be renewing Ash and friends for a fourth season.

Air date: Saturday, April 14, 2018 “To save those two, I would submit to a prostate exam.” Warning: spoilers below… The last two weeks on Ash vs Evil Dead have been rough on Ash and the Ghost Beaters. First, a vengeance-seeking Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) was killed by Ruby (Lucy Lawless) after a knockout drag-out fight. Then Ash had to watch as Ruby threw the Candarian dagger straight into her daughter Brandy’s back killing her as well. Ash is distraught as any father would be. Pablo (Ray Santiago) is also in tears, as this week’s episode begins due to Kelly being trapped in the Rift. Since Pablo used his Brujo Especial powers to open the Rift in the hardware store basement once before, they come up with a crazy plan to get their loved ones back…

Air date: Saturday, April 7, 2018 “Well for starters there’s a very handsome, but demented version of me running around here so if you see I give you permission to break his face.” Warning: spoilers ahead… If you were waiting for Season 3 of Ash vs Evil Dead on STARZ to get REALLY bloody”¦ first off, what’s wrong with you?!?! But secondly, holy crap this is the episode for you! Last week we got the crazy Kelly vs. Ruby brawl that led to Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) being killed in a moment that shook the AvED universe. Ruby (Lucy Lawless) used her body as a vessel to bring Kaya back from the Rift, a place on the other side where Kelly now resides. Meanwhile, Ash (Bruce Campbell) and Pablo (Ray Santiago) accidentally opened the Rift in the hardware store basement leading to a bloody confrontation with demonized Knights of Sumeria. This week, Ruby puts her plan in motion to stop Ash once and for all.

Air date: Saturday, March 31, 2018 “F*ck with my Pablo, and you f*ck with me”¦ and I’m done being f*cked with Ruby.” Warning: spoilers ahead… While Ash (Bruce Campbell) is and always will be the center of the Evil Dead universe, what’s made STARZ’s Ash vs Evil Dead such a fun show for two and half seasons is watching him interact with characters and actors that hold their own amongst the lunacy. In particular I’m talking about the Ghost Beaters, Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo). Santiago went through physical hell in season 2, being possessed by the Necronomicon, sliced in half, and later resurrected through the book. DeLorenzo somehow matched Campbell in the kickass one-liner department and went through emotional traumas like losing her parents in season 1 and Pablo in season 2. Last week, when she thought she lost Pablo again DeLorenzo demonstrated raw emotion we have rarely seen from Kelly, and some legit acting chops that drew tears from many the AvED faithful. This week, Kelly takes center stage, and is willing to put it all on the line to challenge Ruby (Lucy Lawless) once and for all…
