The Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC hosted this year’s BookExpo on Thursday and Friday and BookCon Saturday and Sunday, where publishers featured their books for media, educators, librarians, writers, and fans. While these two annual book events don’t bring in the massive crowds that NYCC does, they are being increasing more popular, with attendees swarming to pick up freebies, included the coveted ARCs (advance reading copy/advance review copy), as well as waiting in long lines to meet their favorite authors.

Quirk Books, one of our favorite publishers, had a presence at the event, with author signings, tote bag giveaways, and free books. Below is a spotlight on some of their 2019 releases that we’re excited about.

The holiday season is upon us, so it’s time to start looking into some of the year’s best book releases to give to your loved ones. This year sees many selections to choose from for fans of properties like Star Wars, Dungeons & Dragons, Dracula, and Frankenstein and authors like Anne Rice and J.R.R. Tolkien; tie-ins for Die Hard, Planet Of The Apes, The Walking Dead,, and Stranger Things, as well as titles by authors like Raymond E. Feist, John Ajvide Lindqvist, Grady Hendrix, and R.A. Salvatore.

In the 1990s, guitarist Kris Pulaski and her band Durt Wurk were seemingly on the verge of a major breakthrough. They had released several well-received albums and had toured the world, where they opened for the likes of Slayer and repeatedly won over live audiences. But then one night, Durt Wurk’s lead singer, Terry Hunt, deceived and betrayed his bandmates, tricking them into signing a contract that led to his – and only his – eventual stardom and their downfall.

Grady Hendrix, author of such horror gems as Horrorstör, My Best Friend’s Exorcism, and Paperbacks From Hell was signing his upcoming book, We Sold Our Souls, at the Quirk Books booth at BookCon 2018 last week. Resplendent in a white suit with pink tie, I knew I was in for treat with this awesome writer.
