| All Hallows Read: Halloween 2017 Book Recommendations
Fall is here and Halloween is only days away, which means it’s time once again for All Hallows Read! That means “sharing the joy and spreading the terror” of giving and receiving some scary books this Halloween season. As usual, my book-loving counterparts here at GoD, Olympus Athens and Waerloga69, helped me pull together some reading recommendations for this year’s list. We have titles from Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Joe Hill, and many more, along with some Audiobook picks as well. See below for our All Hallows Read: Halloween 2017 Book Recommendations…

| Book Review: Paperbacks From Hell: The Twisted History of ’70s and ’80s Horror Fiction
Paperbacks From Hell
The Twisted History of ’70s and ’80s Horror Fiction
Paperback | Kindle
By Grady Hendrix
Publisher: Quirk Books
Release date: September 19, 2017 By the time I was 12, I had exhausted the entire catalogue of Nancy Drew mysteries, Judy Blume’s tales of adolescence, Tolkien’s Middle-earth, C.S. Lewis’s world of Narnia, and much more at my local library and had moved on to Stephen King horror novels and was on the lookout for more of the same. This was back in the 80s, aka pre-Internet, so I had to do a lot of judging books by their covers to figure out what my next selection would be. Thankfully, there were a lot of seriously eye-catching covers in horror fiction back then, and Paperbacks From Hell: The Twisted History of ’70s and ’80s Horror Fiction, a new offering from Quirk Books, is shining a spotlight on those long-forgotten gems.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism
Hardcover | Kindle
Written by Grady Hendrix
Quirk Books
Release Date: May 17th, 2016 Abby and Gretchen have been BFFs from the moment Gretchen showed up to her 10th birthday party… the only one who showed up… and they bonded over roller skating and a split lip. The friendship deepened with secrets, sleepovers, and coded conversations. Until one day, as teenagers, they took LSD with 2 other friends, and Gretchen disappeared into the water. When she was found, there was profound relief, but then… Gretchen starts acting weird. She says invisible hands are touching her, scratching at her. She stops caring about how she looks, stops bathing, starts becoming more withdrawn, and says mean things – some of which are true, but who tells the truth so plainly in high school? Abby is freaking out, because it seems as if nobody at this rich preppie school even cares, and nobody at Gretchen’s house is facing the truth either. It even takes Abby a while to figure out the true cause, and she only does after a traveling evangelical show passes by the school. Her best friend is possessed. My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix is Abby’s story about what it really means to be a BFF. More below.

| ‘Horrorstör’ Grabbed As Put Pilot By Fox
I know, “What’s a “put pilot”? It’s not a commonly known term, but it means that a network guarantees that a TV pilot will get air time, or else they’ll owe lots and lots of money. So that’s good news for Horrorstör, a novel written by Grady Hendrix about a haunted furniture super store that’s just been given a put pilot commitment from FOX. So, it’s pretty much guaranteed it will air on TV. More on this below.
