‘Dunkirk’ Teaser: Christopher Nolan Offers Chilling History Lessons With An All-Star Cast

In the past few years, Christopher Nolan has given us a taste for superhero theatrics in the Dark Knight trilogy, taken us to the various levels of dreams in Inception, and traveled through space and time in Interstellar. But his next feature is a bit more grounded in reality; in fact, it draws a bit from history.
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Dunkirk, a film that follows the events of the British military operation that helped save the lives of 330,000 soldiers while on the shores of French seaport of Dunkirk. Check out the trailer below.

Check Out This 3-Minute Preview Of Hans Zimmer’s ‘Man Of Steel’ Soundtrack
|
 |

It wasn’t too long ago when the prospect of another Superman movie, particularly one directed by Zack Snyder, was looked upon with snark and derision by those of us still desperately trying to scrub the foul memories of Superman Returns from our minds. Casting reports, costume designs, modest plot details, nothing could really deter the hardcore devoted from dreading the worst. Then the trailers started rolling out, and thus apathy began to mutate into anticipation.
One of the big questions surrounding Man of Steel was if composer Hans Zimmer‘s music score could measure up to the iconic themes created for the 1978 classic superhero adventure Superman: The Movie by the legendary John Williams. The latest trailer gave us a taste of Zimmer’s composition and needless to say many of whom saw that trailer were suitably impressed with the original music, a soaring piece of orchestral bliss that is rich with emotion and thundering action motifs.
Today we have for your listening pleasure a sampling of the Man of Steel score. The preview track was originally made available on Soundcloud but seems now to have been withdrawn. Fortunately a very kind soul has made a video of the music set to that recent trailer. You can watch that video here below.

Hans Zimmer Replaces Jack White As Composer On ‘The Lone Ranger’

It looks like Disney has hired a new composer to conduct the score for Gore Verbinski’s upcoming western actioner The Lone Ranger. We previously reported that White Stripes and The Raconteur’s frontman Jack White was set to make his film-composing debut by conducting the score for the film. It seemed like a perfect fit at the time, given White’s musical background. But somewhere in between that announcement and the release of the second trailer, White dropped out.
The Playlist discovered the change when they saw Hans Zimmer’s name attached as the composer instead of White’s. This isn’t the first time that Zimmer has conducted the score for a Verbinski film. Zimmer also conducted the score for all four Pirates of the Caribbean films and Rango has well.

Warner Bros. Launches ‘For Your Consideration’ Awards Campaign For ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

The year is coming to a close and that means studios will be releasing and pushing the films they feel should be considered for some major awards. One studio making such a push is Warner Bros., a studio with a literal treasure trove of movies that could be in the running to the top prize. Films like Magic Mike and Argo could be some serious contenders, as could The Hobbit, but WB is launching a campaign to put The Dark Knight Rises on the awards season map.
It’s not a huge surprise to see WB make such a move, after all The Dark Knight Rises was one of WB’s highest grossing films of the year. But could the film win Best Picture? It depends on who you ask of course, but in my opinion it does stand a chance against something like Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, or more of this year’s films that have yet to be released.

Watch This Video Detailing The Sounds & Music Of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
|
 |

If you were the one of many who watched The Dark Knight Rises in glorious IMAX, then you may have noticed the genius music and the booming sounds coming from explosions, The Bat hovering over Gotham City, and Bane’s terrifying voice. And all of that came together perfectly thanks in part to director Christopher Nolan, music composer Hans Zimmer, and sound editor/sound designer Richard King. Now Soundworks Collection has released a video of how it all came together and you can check it out below.
King reveals that Nolan was playing this one pretty close to the chest, and went as far as not revealing the last few pages of the script to those who were involved with the filmmaking process. Despite not knowing how the film was going to end, King praises Nolan for being very involved with the science of the sound for The Dark Knight Rises. The sound editor also talked about how the different sounds pieced together the different elements (The Bat, Bane, etc.) of the film.

Free Listen: Hans Zimmer’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Soundtrack
|
 |

With less than two weeks to go before the long-awaited release of The Dark Knight Rises, the epic final chapter in Christopher Nolan‘s Batman trilogy, the film’s Hans Zimmer-composed score – due to be released by WaterTower Music next Tuesday – is now streaming in full online for free thanks to the good folks over at the UK movie magazine and site Empire.
You can listen to the soundtrack here below.
Sounds like Zimmer is bringing the sonic thunder once again with a fantastic score that features many callbacks to his collaborations with James Newton Howard on the scores for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight as well as his score for Nolan’s previous film Inception. The most prevalent motif in the score is Zimmer’s theme for the character of Bane (Tom Hardy), a symphony of brooding and ominous tones building to a climax of complete chaos. The track “The Fire Rises” at times recalls the “Mombaasa” cue from Inception and it’s good to hear Zimmer and Newton’s Batman Begins theme about 2.5 minutes into “Despair.”

Check Out Samples From Hans Zimmer’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Score

A few days ago we got our first look at the cover art and track listing for the forthcoming release of Hans Zimmer‘s orchestral soundtrack to The Dark Knight Rises was released.
Today we have for you a selection of 30-second samples from each of the album’s fifteen tracks. You can listen to them here below.
The chilling chant that serves as the theme for the film’s villain Bane (Tom Hardy) is quite prevalent in several of these tracks, but in the final track “Rise” there is a subtle callback to a piece used to underscore the death of Bruce Wayne’s (Christian Bale) parents in the early moments of Batman Begins. A hint of rumors to come true, perhaps?
