Vulture is reporting that actor Benicio Del Toro has decided to skip out on the upcoming J.J. Abrams film, Star Trek 2, after being attached to the sequel for what seems like months now.

Casting on the highly anticipated follow-up to director J.J. Abrams‘ 2009 Star Trek revival, simply known as Star Trek 2 at the moment, continues to happen at a quick pace.

It’s being reported that Peter Weller, star of such titles as RoboCop, Dexter, and 24, has been added to the cast. At the moment, however, nothing is known about who he might be playing.

Super 8, J.J. Abrams’ lens-flared, rose-tinted science fiction adventure and love letter to the genre-bending flicks of the 1980s, is available today on DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack.

According to Variety, Benicio Del Toro has been offered the role of the villain in the upcoming sequel. Now, who he’ll be playing has yet to be revealed, but with production likely set to commence in January, plot details should be arriving soon enough.

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been hired to write a script for Micronauts, a movie based on the popular Hasbro toy for producer J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures.

Paramount struck a deal with Hasbro for the property recently, and it’s considered a priority project behind the planned Transformers 4. Abrams will produce through his Bad Robot Productions.
