Yesterday, we posted a pair of set photos from the Los Angeles location shoot of Star Trek 2. Six more photos have emerged from the production and you can check them out here below.

Much like the ones released earlier, the set pics are taken from the filming of a fight scene involving Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), and the film’s still-unnamed villain played by British actor Benedict Cumberbatch. In the sixth picture, in addition to Quinto and Cumberbatch with their stunt doubles you can clearly see the IMAX camera being used to capture the action.

The plot line for the currently-in-production Star Trek 2 may still be a matter of national security, but until director J.J. Abrams gives Paramount the go-ahead to release an official plot synopsis, MTV got its hands on some photos from the set rife with interpretive possibilities.

Since we don’t know anything about the story for the much-anticipated sequel we can barely surmise what exactly is happening in these pics, but the set images clearly depict an intense battle going on between Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana – looking positively badass with a phaser I might add), and the film’s villain, played by British actor Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s Sherlock, Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy).

Noel Clarke, actor and director from the UK who previously held a recurring role as Mickey Smith in Doctor Who, has been cast in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel.

At this point, it is not fully clear what Clarke’s role will be or how large it is, but it is known that he will play a family man with a wife and a daughter.

The digital rental deal of the day over at Amazon today is Super 8 for only $.99.

At one point it was Benicio Del Toro who was set to play the villain in J.J. Abrams‘ highly anticipated Star Trek sequel, currently being called Star Trek 2. Edgar Ramirez was said to be a top choice to replace Del Toro after his departure, but now it’s being reported that another actor has been chosen for the role.

According to sources, Benedict Cumberbatch, the rising start known for his work on the fantastic BBC series Sherlock and Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, will now play the villain of Star Trek 2, though details of the character are still being kept under wraps.
