| Watch Now: Joan Jett On ‘The Tonight Show’ |
 |
We’re starting to see a lot of promo now for The Runaways, which will get a wide release next month, in the form of clips, images, and TV interviews. The movie is based on the all-girl rock band of the same name, which rose to stardom in the 1970s and launched the career of rock goddess Joan Jett.
On Tuesday night, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts performed The Runaways popular tune “Cherry Bomb” on The Tonight Show and afterward Jett sat down to talk with host Jay Leno about the film and her beginnings as a teenage rock star. Watch the video of the performance and interview here below. This isn’t Jett’s first outing for the film. In January at the Sundance Film Festival, where the film make its debut, Jett come out for a performance and stars Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart (the latter stars in the movie as a teenage Joan Jett) join the band on stage. You’ll probably be hearing a lot of “Cherry Bomb” in the next few weeks, as the song from the film is already streaming online, along with a music video from The Runaways. Jett co-wrote the song back in the 1970s and re-recorded it with The Blackhearts for her 1984 solo album Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth.

| ‘The Runaways’ Theatrical Trailer + Poster |
 |
Two very cool items to report tonight regarding The Runaways movie.
First, there’s the final theatrical movie poster. Check it out there at right (click for larger, full view). It’s basically one of the previously released images of Dakota Fanning at Cherie Currie and Kirsten Stewart as Joan Jett. But, it’s one bad-ass picture! This movie poster image also makes an appearance in the second Runaways news of the night — the full, theatrical trailer! It’s online right now and you can watch it right here below! In the trailer, there’s a quick shot of the two characters in the scene from the poster. This new trailer gives us a lot more insight on the film, a biopic about the 1970s all-girl teenage rock band, The Runaways. We see a little bit about Joan Jett’s early ambition to start an all-girl rock band, and Cherie Currie’s desire to make a change in her life. I talked a bit about the movie’s soundtrack earlier this evening [read Listen Now: Dakota Fanning Sings “˜Cherry Bomb’ On “˜Runaways’ Soundtrack for more about the soundtrack and how to hear a song from the album]. The soundtrack contains several Runaways covers, with Fanning and Stewart providing the vocals. In the new trailer, you hear “Cherry Bomb,” which was in the teaser trailer, and for the first time, two other songs: “California Paradise” and “Dead End Justice.”

| Listen Now: Dakota Fanning Sings ‘Cherry Bomb’ On ‘Runaways’ Soundtrack |
 |
Last week, the details were released regarding The Runaways soundtrack, which includes some great ’70s tunes, as well as original versions and covers of Runaways songs [see New TV Spot, Pics & Soundtrack Details For “˜The Runaways’].
Now, one of the album’s tracks is streaming online for free at the official Runaways movie site. When you visit the site, you’ll immediately here “Cherry Bomb,” the band’s most popular song; in this case, it’s the movie version sung by Dakota Fanning, who stars in the upcoming film as singer Cherie Currie, with backing vocals by Kristen Stewart, who plays guitarist/singer Joan Jett. I’ve already read some trashing of Fanning for the song from the Twitter critics, but being the lifelong Runaways fan that I am, I think you should probably take my word above others — Fanning does a good job and this version is definitely enjoyable. I’ve listened to it probably 30 times already. I mean, c’mon, it’s ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!

| New TV Spot, Pics & Soundtrack Details For ‘The Runaways’ [Updated] |
 |
The Runaways feature film is almost here, and we have a few details, images, and clips to tide you over for now.
First up, check out some new images here below from the film of Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie, and the rest of the cast. These are some great shots and I feel they do a great job of depicting the actresses as the rock and rolling bad girl musicians. [Updated: I’ve added a few more pictures, the last four below are new today from the movie’s official Facebook page.] Next, there’s a new TV spot for the film. It’s a quick one, but totally worth watching as there’s a few extra scenes in there that were not in the trailers. The more I see, the more I know I’m going to love this movie. Lastly, the all-important soundtrack! This is a biopic about an all-girl rock band from the 1970s, so not only is there the originals and covers of The Runaways‘ songs, as well as Joan Jett‘s “Don’t Abuse Me,” but also some good seventies tunage from the likes of The Sex Pistols, David Bowie, MC5, and the Sex Pistols. In the film, Stewart and Fanning do their own vocals, and let me tell you, as a life-long Runaways fan I think these ladies not only look the part, but they also sound it too! The Runaways Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD hits stores on March 23, 2010 — a few days after the film’s March 19 release — but is available for pre-order right now! Also, ff you order the digital download version of the album from the Runaways Soundtrack site, you’ll get it on March 16, 2010! Check out the full soundtrack listing here below.
