| ‘Jem and The Holograms’ Trailer #2: “Showtime Synergy” |
|
Well, the first trailer for Jem and the Holograms failed to impress; in fact it got a wave of international negative reaction. The complete opposite of what Universal was looking for in its modern-day reimagining of the ’80s cartoon of the same name. The film will center on a young girl nicknamed Jem (Aubery Peeples) whose amateur music video was uploaded on YouTube and viewed over a million times, turning her and her band (which also happens to be her sisters) into an internet sensation. Having signed on to a major record labor the group goes on tour, but a greedy studio head wants to take Jem on a solo career, which would rip the family apart. It’s the same old sing-song story about family sticking together kind of film we have seen in the past. But would a pet robot named Synergy who displays holograms of family memories to remind our lead character about the importance of family get you interested in the film? Well if it does, then you might want to check out what director Jon M. Chu had in store for Synergy below.

| ‘Jem and The Holograms’ Trailer: Insert “Truly Outrageous” Reference Here |
If you were a fan of the ’80s animated TV series Jem and the Holograms, you were probably super excited to see the upcoming live-action movie based on it. I say “were” because you’re about to not be anymore. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the movie, and it’s…well, it’s not going so hot. Response to the trailer has been overwhelmingly negative, largely thanks to the movie based on a show about a music company owner who leads a secret second life as the lead singer of a popular band with the help of holographic technology apparently not having a music company owner who leads a secret second life as the lead singer of a popular band with the help of holographic technology in it. It looks more like a modern-day remake of That Thing You Do! than anything, but not nearly as awesome. You can read more about Jem and the Holograms and see the trailer for yourself below.

| ‘Masters Of The Universe’: Rian Johnson, Joe Cornish On Rumored Shortlist To Direct
Sony Pictures’ long-in-development live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe recently lost its latest director when Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), who had signed on to the project in the summer of 2012, departed to make the next G.I. Joe sequel. Back in October Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mask of Zorro co-writer Terry Rossio was hired to pen a new draft after a previous effort by Alex Litvak (Predators) and Mike Finch didn’t pass muster with the studio. This reboot is apparently of great importance to the franchise-famished Sony because they have put together a list of potential directors to take over for Chu, and if this list is genuine, then Masters of the Universe could turn out to be pretty damn great after all.

| ‘G.I. Joe 3’ Will Be Penned By ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Writer Evan DaughteryBriefly: Since being confirmed to return to direct another installment of the G.I. Joe movie franchise, Jon M. Chu has been hard at work finding a writer to come up with a script for the film. That search has ended with Chu choosing Snow White and the Huntsman writer Evan Daughtery. Daughtery may not be a household name, but he is climbing up the ranks. Aside from writing Huntsman, the screenwriter has also penned the scripts for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot for Paramount and Platinum Dunes, the upcoming Divergent starring Shailene Woodley, and the De Niro/Travolta starring vehicle Killing Season.
