Kevin Smith‘s long-awaited hockey comedy Hit Somebody is going through some drastic changes, which could work out for some Clerks fans. Last year, Smith announced that Hit Somebody would his final film and that it would be a two-parter. The first half would follow a character learning how to play hockey in Canada, while the latter half would center on his career as a professional hockey player. Now that has all changed.

After making some alterations to Hit Somebody, which resulted in it being one single entity, Smith realized that it wouldn’t be the film he wanted it to be. That’s where Jason Mewes inspired him to turn Hit Somebody into a miniseries. And Smith did just that. The filmmaker made the announcement on his official twitter account where he said that a network had picked up the miniseries. Shortly after he also announced that because of the Hit Somebody shift, Clerks III would be his final directorial effort.

The Bionic Man #14 features Steve Austin and Bigfoot. Do I really need to say anything else?

Phil Hester and Aaron Gillespie are REALLY turning things up a notch. For the first time, I’m getting the feeling that Steve Austin has a REAL personality and has a unique voice and character. And that voice and character is AWESOME!!! This issue is jam packed with goodness. You’ve got Steve Austin TEAMING UP with Bigfoot to take on a secret organization that builds robot Bigfoots. Yes, it’s as awesome as it sounds. The only thing that bothered me is Steve’s relationship with OSI and Oscar Goldman. Several characters state that Austin no longer works for OSI, yet he keeps going back there for repairs, missions, and other various things. But, that’s just a tiny glitch in what is a fantastic story.

The Bionic Man #10 is the epic conclusion to the first arc of the series!! And believe me, it sure lives up to the hype. Ten issues building up to this one and you are NOT gonna be disappointed at all.

Writers Kevin Smith and Phil Hester bring everything full circle in this issue. Steve Austin faces off against the enemy he was destined to ever since issue one. While I won’t go into spoilers, it’s one hell of a knock-down drag-out fight. I really wish that this HAD been made into a movie, because seeing it on the big screen would be simply breathtaking. Like I said, Smith and Hester manage to bring everything full circle, and I mean EVERYTHING. At the end of the issue, all the storylines have been resolved, and they set up a new, surprising, status quo for Colonel Steve Austin. They send the book off in a brand new direction that should be, frankly, awesome. It’s been one heck of a ride getting to this point, but I can only see this book getting better now that the origin story is done and out of the way.

Author Paul Tobin knows how to write two things really well: women and action. In a world where the only super powers that the main character has is being “really strong” Tobin makes this book exciting and intriguing all at the same time. Yes, being a cyborg isn’t really a huge super power in the current comic universe, but what I love about this is that Tobin MAKES it awesome in this world. One thing that I really like about the character of Jamie Summers is that she doesn’t feel sorry for herself. There’s no “I’m a machine, not a woman” tears or breakdowns or anything like that. Just straight-up butt kicking!

Man, after reading The Bionic Man #9, I am SPENT! But, in a good way. NO, a GREAT way. THIS is a comic book, folks. THIS is your summer action movie. THIS is your sci-fi drama with the drama turned up to eleven. THIS is the review that you bought and paid for, Phil Hester. Just kidding on that last part. I’ve only met Mr. Hester one time, and no money changed hands. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

Phil Hester (with some help from Kevin Smith) brings us the classic story of man vs machine vs man vs machine. Once you’ve read the issue, that’ll make more sense. This issue is INTENSE!!! From the story to the dialogue to the action, this book opens with a great action scene and doesn’t stop until the last page. In fact, it doesn’t even STOP at the last page!!!
