NYCC 2012 Carrie Remake

Carrie, the Stephen King novel which was originally made into a film directed by Brian De Palma in 1976, is being remade for a Spring 2013 release next year and had a panel on Saturday at the IGN Theater at New York Comic-Con.

The original stands as a cult classic and is the ultimate revenge of the nerd story in which a red-headed shy, wallflower teenager, imbued with telekinesis, throws her wrath of vengeance and revenge on the residents of small town in which she lives who have always shunned and mocked her.

The new version finds Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Let Me In) in the role of Carrie White, originally played by Sissy Spacek. Moretz, along with celebrated actress Julianne Moore stepping into the role perfected by Piper Laurie in the first film as Carrie’s chillingly disturbed mother, director Kimberly Peirce, and producer Kevin Misher made up the panel at NYCC at the Jacob Javits Center in midtown Manhattan.

Carrie Remake Header

Chloe Moretz may have had a lot of criminals’ blood on her hands in Kick-Ass, but she will have a different blood all over herself in the new adaptation of Stephen King’s horror story Carrie. The first of many marketing photos are actually starting off in a pretty big way, with Moretz wearing a prom dress covered in blood, which was the pinnacle scene in the original movie.

Chloe Moretz

In the past two years alone she’s played an ass-kicking superhero and a blood-sucking vampire. Now it looks like Chloe Moretz has a date to a prom and a burning high school in her screen future.

The young actress, best known for playing Hit Girl in the violent action-comedy Kick-Ass as well as the haunting horror film Let Me In and most recently Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning 3D fantasy Hugo, has just been confirmed for the title role in the new film version of Carrie. Based on Stephen King‘s first novel published in 1974, Carrie was adapted for the screen in 1976 by filmmaker Brian DePalma with Sissy Spacek in the title role of a shy high school student who uses her emerging telekinetic powers to take revenge on her tormentors. Both Spacek and Piper Laurie, who played Carrie’s religious fanatic mother, earned Academy Award nominations for their performances.
