Last week on The Strain, Eichorst (Richard Sammel) tells Palmer (Jonathan Hyde) that HE will be going to the auction. Oh… and that he and Coco (Lizzie Brocheré) better fall in line, because the worm juice effects are only temporary. The Red Hook posse have their own dilemmas. Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) leaves Fet (Kevin Durand), for her boring girlfriend, and oh! You stupid, stupid girl! Nora and Eph (Mia Maestro and Corey Stoll) get word that Zach’s grandparents are still alive. Now he has some choices for Zach. The episode also had some 2005 flashbacks with Sean Astin, and it showed how the relationship between Eph and Nora started. Gus and Angel (Miguel Gomez and Joaquín Cosio) break some friends out of jail to be some Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones) soldiers.

Spoilers ahead for The Strain finale!

Last week on The Strain gave me more gray hair, and I named one strand Eichorst (Richard Sammel). He and Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) shared some of the most intensely fearful scenes of the show to date. As a captor, I felt like he was psychologically torturing me. What was the deal with the pineapple? I thought he was kidding about seasoning, but I guess not. I felt triumphant when Dutch saved herself from rape by stinger, and my heart was racing as she went from brick wall to brick wall, hope dwindling with every step. I thought she was a dead woman, when the camera tricked us into thinking Fet, Eph, and Nora (Kevin Durand, Corey Stoll, and Mia Maestro) were traveling in the same stairwell. And then we knew. But nothing could keep him from getting to Dutch. That leap then despairing cry in Fet’s arms really got me. Other stuff happened too: Eichorst as a human nazi, Gus (Miguel Gomez) and Angel (Joaquín Cosio) see the Gupta family to safety, and Setrakian (David Bradley) tries to convince the guy that knocked him out not to sell the Occido Lumen though.

Last week on The Strain, Eph and Dutch (Corey Stoll and Ruta Gedmintas) share a flask and bond over failed romances during a sniper stakeout. They are after Eldritch Palmer (Jonathan Hyde). He shoots! He… thinks he scores! However, they get nabbed by the cops, and they actually hit Coco (Lizzie Brocheré), who is on death’s door. Palmer just kinda got her back. He demands from Eichorst (Richard Sammel) that his “partner,” The Master (Jack Kesy), restore her. The Master does oblige, but I know Palmer’s hubris is dooming him. That’s part of Eichorst’s mysterious smile that holds thousands of secrets. Dutch gets dragged out of the cell, and we now know she’s in Eichorst’s lair. Eph and the audience have 37 heart attacks, as the police station is decimated, and vampire tongues lash out through the bars perilously close (they get the cop that locked himself in with him). Nora and Fet (Mia Maestro and Kevin Durand) come to his rescue. Setrakian gets his hands on the Occido Lumen, finally, but is then knocked out.

Last week on The Strain, the vamps have gotten into Red Hook via naive boat captain. It looks like the end for the councilwoman and pretty much everyone, but they have the motley heroes on their side. Nora (Mia Maestro) and Fet (Kevin Durand) go try to restore the UV power, but newly madeover Kelly Goodweather (Natalie Brown) follow them because they have Zach. Eph (Corey Stoll) and Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) take up arms (seperately). Nikki ends up saving Dutch’s life, and for that sweet Fet is grateful. In a last hope rallying cry, Justine urges the people of Red Hook to take up arms, and it’s a victory for the neighborhood (even though if Nora and Fet did not get the power back on, it would have been a different story). Setrakian (David Bradley) takes off after Eichorst (Richard Sammel), with Eph on his heels. I honestly can’t believe Setrakian has not given up by now, because he never wins.

Last week on The Strain, Eichorst (Richard Sammel) gave Kelly Goodweather (Natalie Brown) some makeup tips, designed to fool Zach. She fools a cop too, well enough to get into “vampire free” Red Hook. The tentacle that flashed out of the car behind her, helped too. She managed to get her creepy “feeler” adopted children sniffing around the neighborhood for Zach. Eph (Corey Stoll) finally made some headway with his relationship with Zach, by letting him assist in an impromptu surgery on a gun dealer (dealer of everything, but guns were Eph’s purpose). Kelly and Eph finally have that literal fight over Zach, with Eph the victor, thanks to Nora’s (Mia Maestro) help. Palmer (Jonathan Hyde), although now intimate with Coco (Lizzie Brocheré), still won’t share details. We know why, but this is what happens when you have a relationship, Palmer. New daylight vamp, Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones) comes to town with a Master vendetta, and seeks out Gus (Miguel Gomez). Remember, he’s soured on Setrakian (David Bradley) after he and Fet (Kevin Durand) fouled up that last showdown with explosives.
