| The GoD List: Comics For June 20, 2012 |
 |

Each and every week “Americana Assassin” MK2Fac3 and “Midwest Marauder” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of June 20, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here. Whhaaaaat?!!? You remember me, right? Well, I apologize for the lack of fac3 (faceless?) time on these here websites. A lot has changed recently and Tuesdays and Wednesdays have become even busier for me recently, what with the new job and all… (pausing for congratulatory high fives), so I’ve been away for like a week or something and some have said that I phoned in the previous week’s, but to those people (HENCHMAN!!!), I say this, “I’m back, BABAY!” And there have been some truly amazing comic books over the last few weeks. Did you guys read Creator Owned Heroes? I may be jumping the gun a little bit since it’s only been one issue, but I honestly think it could be a game changer. And while this week may not be jam packed full of potential game-changers, there’s some really good stuff to look forward to. So, follow me past the break, so that we can talk about all the great comics that are coming out this week. This is The GoD List, after all.

Mars Attacks #1 was a very different sort of animal. Sure, you can guess by the title that there are creatures from the planet Mars and that they’re attacking, but beyond that, it’s really not like what you’d expect at all. John Layman takes the old Mars Attacks formula and turns it a little bit askew from what we’re used to. And it works like a charm!! I know you’re sick of my saying this, but I try to NEVER give away spoilers, but this story is told from an unusual point of view. There’s also an unusual narrative within the book, one that makes you want the LAST issue (or close to it) to get here as quickly as possible.

| Bummer: ‘Mars Attacks’ Not Coming To Broadway
On Friday, we reported that IDW and Topps would soon be bringing us a Broadway musical based on Mars Attacks called Mars Attacks: 21st Century Slaughter to be written and produced by comic book veteran John Layman (Chew, Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness). This was an official announcement send out to news outlets by the two companies, who have been collaborating on a new Mars Attacks comic book series, and Topps has lots of plans for the franchise for its 50th anniversary. Therefore, I was pretty excited about the news — I mean, it wasn’t SO far-fetched to me. I figure it’d be like Little Shop of Horrors or the awesome Evil Dead: The Musical. Well people, turns out IDW and Topps were playing an early April Fool’s Day joke on everyone, because the companies issued a second press release today, along with the above graphic, revealing that it was all just a prank for today’s holiday.

| ‘Mars Attacks’ Musical Coming To Broadway [Updated]
Mars Attacks, the famous science-fiction trading card set, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. And in doing so, its original creator and licensor Topps, one of the biggest companies of trading cards in the world, is partnering with comic book publishers IDW to take on a massive venture, taking the aliens attacks Earth story that it’s based on to Broadway as a musical. This big-budget musical, entitled Mars Attacks: 21st Century Slaughter, is to be written and produced by comic book veteran John Layman (Chew, Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness). In a statement released by Topps and IDW, Layman describes the undertaking of this project as an upbeat, sci-fi version of West Side Story. He also went on to say that like any good Broadway show, there will be catchy songs as well in the production.

| Give The Aliens Of ‘Mars Attacks’ Your Heart This Valentine’s Day
For those of you who thought that Valentine’s Day love was only for zombies, remember, there’s aliens too! The folks over at Topps sent over this delightful Mars Attacks Valentine’s Day message. So, this Valentine’s Day, why not give an alien your heart…literally. Topps announced last month that they’d be releasing a Mars Attacks commemorative trading card set this July to coincide with the company’s 50th anniversary. The set will contain reprints of the original 55 cards from 1962, as well as 25 never-before-seen subjects.
