| ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Back On With ‘Daredevil’ Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight Directing
Back in September, Universal and Legendary Pictures took Pacific Rim 2 off its release schedule of August 4, 2017 and gave its projected August 4, 2017 opening date to Pitch Perfect 3. Guillermo Del Toro, who directed the original that grossed $411 million worldwide in the summer of 2013, remained optimistic that the project would still be moving forward, submitting a script and budget to the studios a month after the sequel was put on hold. Deadline is now reporting that the project is no longer on the development back burner, but it now has a different director. Del Toro has been replaced by Steven S. DeKnight.

| Guillermo del Toro Wants ‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Maisie Williams In ‘Pacific Rim 2’
When Universal first announced that Pacific Rim 2 was on the backburner, there was some concern that the film could be cancelled altogether. Director Guillermo del Toro says that he and Zack Penn are currently working on the script and a budget, which will be turned over to the studio in a matter of weeks. But when the studio took it off the 2017 release, and replaced it with Pitch Perfect 3, all hoped seemed lost. But that isn’t stopping Del Toro from dream casting possible new roles in the sequel. The director took to Twitter recently to talk about how he would like to see Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams in Pacific Rim 2. More on the story below.

| Guillermo del Toro Talks Ghosts, What’s Next After ‘Crimson Peak,’ ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Status
If you told me Guillermo del Toro was making a live-action My Little Pony movie (don’t go getting any ideas, Hollywood), I’d be excited about it. Anything he does, I’m down for a watch. But while this is true, if you really want to get me pumped up tell me that del Toro is working on a smaller film next. I’ve very much enjoyed his bigger Hollywood flicks like the Hellboy movies, Pacific Rim, and Blade II, but it’s his smaller movies like The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth that really get me giddy. In a lengthy piece on the director it’s revealed that his next project, after the upcoming gothic horror Crimson Peak, will in fact be one of these smaller movies.
