‘The War Of The Worlds’: Trailer For BBC Miniseries Released

The War of the Worlds BBC Miniseries (2019)

The BBC recently released a trailer for The War of the Worlds, a new adaptation of H. G. Wells‘ 1898 novel of the same name.

This latest adaptation, written by Peter Harness, is a miniseries which will play out in three parts. It stars Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall, Freya Allan, Rupert Graves, and Robert Carlyle, with Craig Viveiros directing all three episodes.

This week on Doctor Who, the Doctor continues his adventure in the world of the occult conspiracy thriller. An Egyptian-style pyramid appears in the middle of a hot zone in Central Asia. The Doctor and Bill are summoned to investigate. The Doctor is still blind, and has not yet told Bill about it.

What do they find? What does it all mean? The episode pulls together some interesting literary symbols and ideas in order to create jeopardy, but it falls apart a bit at the last minute. To find out why, read on…

On Doctor Who Episode 9.8 “The Zygon Inversion,” the Earth is facing dark times, as a splinter group of radicalized Zygons have gone against their treaty obligations, and are threatening humanity. While Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) faces problems in New Mexico, the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) join forces to try and bring a peaceful resolution to the nightmare scenario. But the Doctor may end up facing his most fearsome enemy yet: his own companion, Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman).

In 1882, an author by the name of Frank R. Stockton wrote a now famous short story called “The Lady, or The Tiger?” In it, a barbaric king decides to mete out justice using trial by ordeal. The accused of crime is placed in an arena with two doors. The accused must open a single door. Behind one, there is a lady that the king decided is an appropriate match for the accused, that accused must marry if the door is opened. Behind the other is a fierce, hungry tiger that will devour the accused if the other choice is made.

That is very much the sort of conundrum that is the presented in Episode 9.7 “The Zygon Inversion” this week on Doctor Who. Does the world end in fire and violence? Or does everyone go on, committed to something different? How do you choose? Which do you choose, the Lady or the tiger?
