RELEASE DATE: December 8, 2015

Marvel’s Ant-Man takes a comedic page from its Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart Guardians Of The Galaxy, and delivers a superhero story that’s appealing to all audiences, even those not interested in capes and cowls.

Paul Rudd stars as Scott Lang, a master thief who’s just finished a three-year stint in San Quentin prison. While his crime was more of the Robin Hood variety, his criminal record is making it very difficult for him to keep a job and make ends meet on the straight and narrow path. Motivated by his desire to be there for his young daughter’s life, Scott joins forces with former prison buddy Luis (Michael Peña) and his crew (Tip “T.I.” Harris, David Dastmalchian) for a sure-thing burglary job. Unbeknownst to Scott, the safe he’s cracking belongs to Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), the S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist who developed the shrinking technology that powers the Ant-Man suit.

Director Peyton Reed and star Paul Rudd on the set of Marvel Studios Ant-Man

It’s no secret that Ant-Man had its share of production problems, but director Peyton Reed was able to pull everything together to make a really fun Marvel film that takes a slight side step from everything that is going on with the Avengers. In fact, Ant-Man was just the kind of break we needed from all the dark themes explored in some of the previous entries of the MCU, and can be considered one of the most grounded and relatable with the film exploring themes of fatherhood. Marvel’s final film in Phase 2 was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and is now getting a sequel appropriately titled Ant-Man and The Wasp.

And to help celebrate the upcoming release of Ant-Man on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, and DVD, Peyton Reed is talking a little bit about how the film came together, and a little bit about the sequel as well in our on-camera interview. Watch our interview with the director here below.

Director Peyton Reed and star Paul Rudd on the set of Marvel Studios' Ant-Man

Despite a rough road traveled and lower expectations than usual, Ant-Man was a financial and critical success, proving yet again that Disney and Marvel have a truly special formula that rarely misses. Because of this, it was announced recently that a sequel to the movie titled Ant-Man and the Wasp was officially happening.

Now it appears that a new director doesn’t have to be hired to make the sequel as it’s being reported that Peyton Reed, who replaced Edgar Wright when he departed the first movie, has entered into negotiations to return for the sequel.

Marvel's Ant-Man

Avengers: Age of Ultron may have received the bulk of the hype (not to mention the box office), but it was Ant-Man (check out Adam Frazier’s review at GoD from July, as well as my complete timeline of the film’s troubled development) that turned out to be the Marvel Studios’ summer release of 2015 that had audiences going back for second (and maybe third and fourth) helpings. I know I did.

Over a week following the surprise announcement that Marvel had put into development a sequel called Ant-Man and the Wasp for July 2018, the studio has revealed that the original that proved to be a resounding success with critics and audiences will be coming to home video on multiple viewing formats including Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray just in time for the holiday shopping season.

You can check out a trailer and cover art for the Blu-ray releases, along with ten minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from Ant-Man here below.

Marvel's Ant-Man

Marvel Studios has just announced a huge change in their Phase Three movie schedule, with the addition of one sequel to the roster and release date changes for two promising franchise starters.

The July 2018 release slot that originally belonged to Black Panther – which just snagged Joe Robert Cole to write the script – has been given to Ant-Man and the Wasp, a follow-up to Marvel’s surprisingly successful (over $400 million in worldwide box office) blockbuster Ant-Man.
