Marvel's Ant-Man

The ingenious part of Marvel’s Shared Universe is that the marketing team can have fun and find creative ways to market each film, whether it involves the solo ones or the ensemble ones. Their latest effort turns its attention to the upcoming Ant-Man.

But for one of the more obscure heroes of the MCU, how would the marketing team make sure that audiences know that Ant-Man exists in it. Well one way is having him do some tiny cameos on the Avengers’ signature weaponry. Check out some of the cool posters below.

Joss Whedon With Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner On The Set Of Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man has seen its fair share of problems. Edgar Wright dropped out at the last minute because of a major script overhaul; the studio eventually settled on Peyton Reed to replace him as director; Adam McKay and star Paul Rudd did rewrites to Wright’s script. No one will really know what Wright’s version of the movie would have looked like had he stayed on to direct, and in fact there are only a few people who have seen the actual script.

Joss Whedon is one of those people. The Avengers: Age of Ultron director recently spoke about Ant-Man, and praised Wright’s script calling it one of the best that Marvel has ever had. Hit the jump for more.

Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in Marvel Studio's Ant-Man

Marvel Studios has released the first full theatrical trailer for their latest solo comic book adventure, Ant-Man. You can check it out here below.

The teaser trailer, released in January, leaned heavily on setting up the story basics. The latest delivers on the action and visual effects fronts and then some, with Paul Rudd looking mighty badass as the titular incredible shrinking superhero as he encounters insects of an unusual size and takes on Corey Stoll‘s villainous Darren Cross when the latter suits up as Yellowjacket. We also get a sense of the on-screen relationship between Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and the stakes involved in their recruiting thief Scott Lang (Rudd) for their battle against Cross.

Paul Rudd as Scott Lang in Marvel Studio's Ant-Man

The first trailer for Peyton Reed‘s Ant-Man had a stinger towards the end that gave its viewers a chance to view more promotional material on the latest issue of EW. Photos and some quotes from the set offered a look at the production of the film, but a small interview with Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige also gave us more insight as to why it didn’t work out with Edgar Wright as planned.

While the teaser trailer only told us about Scott Lang and his newfound purpose to become the titular hero, it didn’t tell us much else. Based on what we know so far, this will be a heist film, and after the jump we are learning more about how that concept plays a factor into the story. The latest issue also has information about the characters, and also address why Marvel and Wright separated.

The first trailer for Peyton Reed‘s Ant-Man debuts tonight during the premiere of Agent Carter on ABC at 8 PM. In anticipation for the release of the trailer, the first poster for the film has been revealed. If you are wondering what the poster looks like, then you might want to take a look at the launch of the film’s trailer teaser and the new look at star Paul Rudd in costume from earlier today. Everything is tiny. So it only seems fitting that the poster would stick with that theme.

Of course the poster doesn’t quite exactly work online, but I’m sure it will have a bigger impact when you see it in a movie theater. Hit the jump to see what it looks like.

Ant-Man Header

Our first look at Paul Rudd as Ant-Man was more of an auditory thing as the footage only had voiceovers and a CGI sequence. The SDCC poster also revealed the character, which looked like it was pulled from the concept art pile. Flash forward a few months later to when Marvel revealed the first image of Rudd as a beaten Scott Lang, but the studio was still holding out on revealing the actual suit. Until now.

In the hours leading up to the premiere of the first Ant-Man trailer on ABC, we are now getting a new look at Rudd wearing the Ant-Man suit, which graces the cover of the upcoming issue of EW. Hit the jump to see it.

Evangeline Lilly Ant-Man Panel SDCC 2014 #9

The root of Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios parting ways was creative differences. Long before the MCU launched into the successful franchise that it is today, Wright was hard at work on his Ant-Man script. But once Marvel figured out where it would fit in their cinematic universe, Wright felt that his hard work would be undone. Of course the idea of Wright directing a film like Ant-Man excited fans, and once he left, it upset them. Most wanted to point the blame at Marvel.

The truth of it all probably won’t come out until after the film’s release, or maybe when someone writes an in-depth piece on the matter, but Evangeline Lilly is shedding some light on the matter. In an interview with Buzzfeed, she explains how she nearly left the project after Wright’s departure, but also what made her stay, and how the rewrites from Adam McKay actually made the film fit into the universe more than the original written by Wright and Joe Cornish. More after the jump.
