Jack Reacher PosterJack Reacher
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie
Written by Christopher McQuarrie
Starring: Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Werner Herzog
Paramount Pictures
Rated PG-13 | 130 minutes
Release Date: December 21st, 2012

Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Jack Reacher is based on Lee Child‘s 2005 novel, One Shot.

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all the evidence points to suspect James Barr (Joseph Sikora), an ex-Army sniper with a history of violence.

During interrogation, Barr offers up only a single note: “Get Jack Reacher.” Enter Reacher (Tom Cruise), a drifter and former Military Police Officer who makes it his business to right wrongs and be an all-around bad-ass.

Working as an investigator for Barr’s defense attorney, Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike), Reacher begins to unravel a case involving a hired killer and a Russian known only as “The Zec,” played by German director Werner Herzog (Aguirre: The Wrath of God, Grizzly Man).

Herzog is perfect for the role: the director has made a career out of muttering about death and the chaotic indifference of nature, so it’s only natural his character would order a low-level thug to bite off his own thumb or get shot in the head. I imagine Herzog acts completely the same when working with actors or documentary subjects.

Jack Reacher is an above-average crime thriller from another era. It feels like ’40s pulp noir at times, with hard-boiled dialogue and staff action sequences including an impressive car chase straight out of ’70s cinema. Cruise, as always, is able to convince the audience that he is who he says he is. By doing all of his own stunts, Cruise inhabits his roles in the way that few Hollywood stars can.

The World's End

The first teaser poster for Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End was more like a list of pubs the protagonists would like to drink at before the world ends. Every single pub had its own unique name and appropriately fitting font. But that was just the teaser poster.

Now comes yet another teaser poster that sheds more light on the fact that the pub shares its name with a cataclysmic event.

Check out the latest teaser poster for the film below.

Martin Freeman and Eddi Marsan Join The World's End

Production for Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End, the third installment of the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, has already begun. Wright reunites with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in a comedy that involves heavy drinking and a possible apocalyptic event. Earlier this year, the film added Paddy Considine and Rosamund Pike to the cast. Now we are learning that two more actors will be joining them as well.

Focus Features announced that Martin Freeman (Shaun of the Dead, The Hobbit) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) will be joining Pegg, Frost, Considine, and Pike. According to Empire, Freeman and Marsan’s characters will be part of a group of friends who try to complete an epic pub crawl they did 20 years ago. No word yet on who Pike will be playing, but it is assumed that she could play a love interest to one of the characters, presumably Pegg’s character.

Paddy Considine

One of the most notable things about Edgar Wright‘s Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy is the use of the same actors playing different parts. It’s unknown if Martin Freeman will appear in some way in the final film, The World’s End, with his schedule tied up with The Hobbit films, and there is no word if Bill Nighy is signed on. But one familiar face is indeed coming back, and it’s the face that you see in the header.

Paddy Considine, who was in Hot Fuzz, will be joining Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Rosamund Pike for this bar-hopping film that sends the cast on a quest to reach a fabled bar, The World’s End, during what turns out to be the end of the world. We don’t know if it will be one of those typical world-ending catastrophe since there is a rumor floating around that there might be aliens involved in this comedy.

Rosamund Pike

Edgar Wright is expected to begin shooting Ant-Man as soon as he completes his work filming The World’s End, the final installment in his Blood and Ice Cream trilogy. The apocalyptic film will reunite Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost for another comedic take on a genre film. Now with production expected to begin next month, The World’s End is adding a few more pieces. This time the Daily Mail reports that Rosamund Pike will be joining the cast of the film.

It’s not entirely known who Pike will play, although the teaser poster that was released earlier this year may reveal she could be a bartender or be a part of the group (presumably led by Pegg and Frost’s characters) that go bar hopping before the world comes to a cataclysmic end. The synopsis below also may hint at who she could play. But until we get confirmation, all we could do is speculate.
