Dr. Gordon

Since the very first Saw movie added a new layer to the horror genre, fans have wondered what happened to Dr. Gordon at the end and where in the hell he went.

Five new chapters in the saga of the twisted mind of the Jigsaw Killer have unfolded since then, and it appears that finally, you may just find out the answers to the questions that you’ve been asking. And since Saw VII is reported to be the last in the series, it’s no surprise that producers look to be swinging for one more home run.

Saw

When Saw first came out in 2004, it was a vicious and unique new addition to the world of horror, and very few people could deny how much gory fun it was.

It was so popular, in fact, that sequels soon followed and they kept coming. By 2009 — yes, only 5 short years later — they were already releasing Saw VI. Many faithful fans have continued to line up the second a new installment is released, and as with any franchise, these fans have the ones they like and the ones they didn’t like. On the other hand, there’s another group of people who loathe what the franchise has become, and consider it a constant recycling of the exact same idea, surgically engineered to take the money of unsuspecting consumers every Halloween season.

With each and every Saw film, it has become more and more apparent that the popularity is slowly weakening. And so the question has arisen: when will Jigsaw orchestrate his final cruel trap?

Saw VI

The first teaser trailer, a poster, and even a cool motion poster for the upcoming Saw VI has been released by Lionsgate. Click the image at right to see the one sheet at full size!

The movie is the sixth in the franchise, which started in 2004. An impressive amount of production, with a movie coming out once a year. The franchise in general revolves around an intelligent killer who puts those who he believes deserve it into various sadistic situations which require extreme and ultra-painful actions to escape them and the certain death that awaits you if you do not.

Saw VI brings back stars Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith, as well as Betsy Russell, Mark Rolston, and Peter Outerbridge and is set for an October 23, 2009 release date.

Click over for a synopsis, the first teaser trailer, and to see the very cool motion poster, head on over to Yahoo! Movies.

Saw V
Unrated Director’s Cut
Directed by David Hackl
Starring Tobin Bell, Betsy Russell, Julie Benz, Scott Patterson, Costas Mandylor
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release Date: January 20, 2009

I’ve never been a big fan of the Saw series. After the first two (and the sequel is better than it has any right to be) I tuned out to the phenomenon even though as a horror fan I couldn’t escape it. Ever since 2004 there has been a Saw sequel released every year right around Halloween and the series’ devious mastermind Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) has been elevated to the status of an iconic fright flick maniac. While I may not be his biggest fan, I can certainly understand his enduring appeal. For a generation raised on gruesome tales of masked madmen stalking dumb, nubile teens to their brutal deaths the Saw franchise, initiated in 2004 by writer Leigh Whannell and co-writer/director James Wan, is like a bit of fresh air. I’d hate to admit it but these films are at their best slasher flicks with a brain and a deranged imagination. The tagline for Saw II was “Oh yes, there will be blood” and as Saw V clearly proves, brother you don’t know the half of it.

Considering it broke records for fastest and biggest advance sales ever in movie history, it comes as no surprise that High School Musical 3 took the top slot at the box office this weekend.

Earning a whopping $42 million, the G-rated Disney sequel beat out Lions Gate’s horror sequel Saw V, which earned $30.5 million. Both films had a budget of around $11 million, making each of them winners for their respective studios in their first week in theaters.

Coming in at #3 with $7.6 million was last week’s winner, Max Payne, the Mark Wahlberg big-screen adaptation of the popular video game. Holding strong at #5 was multi-week winner Beverly Hills Chihuahua, another Disney offering, with $6.9 million for a total of $78 million after four weeks.
