Metal Masters 5 Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, Pantera Members

The Metal Masters clinic held their annual concert on January 22, 2014 at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, CA, where members of metal giants like Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, Pantera, and more shared the stage to play songs together from their respective back catalogs.

Pro-shot footage of the 3-hour headbanging event, Metal Masters 5, is now online and you can watch it here below.

Some of the songs played were Iron Maiden and KISS covers, but most were from the aforementioned bands, like Slayer’s “South Of Heaven” and “Raining Blood” and Pantera’s “I’m Broken,” “Strength Beyond Strength,” and “Mouth For War.” And the all-star jam finale? Pantera’s “Fucking Hostile,” sung by frontman Phil Anselmo and Testament’s Chuck Billy; a nice touch was seeing bass titan Billy Sheehan playing along on this one, and on Slayer’s “Mandatory Suicide” WITH the guys from Slayer. Too awesome.

The Satanic Temple Satan Monument design for Oklahoma Capitol

Wouldn’t you like to take your children to sit on Satan’s lap?

If so, then you might be in luck, as the congregants of The Satanic Temple are hoping to make that a reality. The New York-based religious organization has officially submitted a design proposal for a satanic statue at the Oklahoma state Capitol to “complement and contrast” a Ten Commandments monument that currently resides on the public grounds.

The proposed statue would feature a 7-foot-tall rendering of Baphomet, the goat-headed winged Satanic deity, sitting cross-legged on a throne under a pentagram with a child on both sides of him. “The lap will serve as a seat for visitors,” read the description in The Satanic Temple’s application.

Slayer Reign In Blood

As part of their monthly MP3 album deals, Amazon has Slayer‘s Reign In Blood on sale for only 5.00 in MP3 format. If you’d like a physical copy of the album, the CD is available for $11.70 and is an AutoRip, which means with the CD purchase you’ll also get a FREE MP3 download of the entire album.

This sale version of Reign In Blood contains two extra tracks: “Aggressive Perfector” and a remix of “Criminally Insane.” The original 10-song album, which clocks in at under 30 minutes, was released in 1986 and was the band’s breakout effort, mostly thanks to the wildly popular “Angel Of Death.” Featuring the original four members of Slayer, the album is a non-stop double-bass frenzy of thrash metal that set the bar high for other bands in that genre. A highly worthy purchase, even at full price, other standout songs are “Jesus Saves,” “Postmortem,” and “Raining Blood.”

Jeff Hanneman, original guitarist and songwriter for the band Slayer, died today of liver failure in a southern California hospital, according to a posting on Slayer’s official Facebook page. He was 49 years old.

Born in 1964, Hanneman helped found the popular thrash metal band Slayer in 1981 along with fellow guitarist Kerry King. The band has been putting out albums consistently since its 1983 debut, Show No Mercy, and Hanneman has played rhythm and lead guitar on each of them, including their most recent effort, 2009’s World Painted Blood.

Hanneman had been on medical leave from Slayer since early 2011 after he contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a rare, quick-spreading flesh-eating disease. His bandmates had been optimistic during his recovery and rehabilitation and were hopeful that their he would eventually rejoin them for a new album and tour.

Drummer Dave Lombardo Forced Off Slayer’s Australian Tour; Jon Dette To Fill In [Updated]

Dave Lombardo Slayer

Drummer Dave Lombardo revealed on his official Facebook page on Thursday that he is being forced off Slayer’s upcoming Australian tour after he questioned the band’s financial situation. Sitting in for these dates is Jon Dette, who previously played with Slayer and is already in Australia with Anthrax for the Soundwave Festival filling in temporarily for Charlie Benante, who is currently unable to leave the United States.

Lombardo, who co-founded the thrash metal outfit in 1981 with guitarist Kerry King, had recently been trying to look into Slayer’s financial documents, which he felt left the four band members with very little income from the tour after deductions. He eventually proposed a new business model, which was met with resistance from King, who’s one of two guitarists in Slayer. According to Lombardo, King warned him that if he continued to argue for his new business model, he would “find another drummer.” After a recent rehearsal – one in which King did not show up – Lombardo received an email from the band’s lawyers stating that he was being replaced for the Australian tour, which is set to begin on February 23 at the 2013 Soundwave Festival in Brisbane and run through March 4.

Here below you can read Lombardo’s full statement, which goes into details about what he thought was going wrong with the band financially and what’s occurred since he began questioning the situation (including what amounted to be a gag order on him).
