| Rooney Mara, Tatiana Maslany Testing For 2016 ‘Star Wars’ Standalone Film
Star Wars spinoffs was the first thing that came to mind when Disney announced that they would be releasing a Star Wars film every year when they acquired LucasFilm. So with Star Wars: The Force Awakens already in post-production, its time to look forward to 2016. Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards will direct a standalone film based on a draft written by Gary Whitta, who amicably left to write Starlight. He was then reportedly replaced by Simon Kinberg, who was a consultant on The Force Awakens and is an executive producer on Star Wars Rebels. With the script looking like its near completion, Edwards is setting his sights on finding a cast. And it looks like he has narrowed the female lead to three stars.

| Rumor: Simon Kinberg May Pen 2016 ‘Star Wars’ Standalone Script
Last weekend, news broke that Gary Whitta was no longer writing the script for the first Untitled 2016 Star Wars Standalone Film. News of this certainly mirrored Michael Arndt’s departure from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While we don’t have the details as to why the split happened, Whitta’s tweet didn’t indicate any ill feelings towards Disney/Lucasfilm. The writer is moving on with a project titled Starlight over at Fox. But director Gareth Edwards won’t be working on the script alone for very long if the new rumors are true. Sources say Star Wars Rebels executive producer Simon Kinberg is being tapped to be Whitta’s replacement. Hit the jump for more.

| Rumor: Gareth Edwards’ ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff Revealed
We still know very little about Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Fortunately we will get a little hint when the first trailer debuts at nine select theaters this Friday. Unlike the Star Wars we have seen in the past, these spinoffs provide a unique perspective on the Star Wars universe while still standing on their own. These spinoff films are scheduled to be released in between the primary numbered movies being directed by J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson. The first to be released will be from Godzilla director Gareth Edwards and writer Gary Whitta. Since the beginning the plot to these movies have been shrouded in secrecy. Now that Godzilla has stormed movie theaters to much critical praise and financial success, director Gareth Edwards is seizing the moment by signing on to direct a movie in one of the biggest franchises of all time, Star Wars. Edwards will direct the first of the much talked about standalone spinoff movies, which have been rumored to focus on origin stories of popular characters like Boba Fett and Yoda, though little to no official information has been shared and it’s unclear which spinoff Edwards will direct.
