| Forest Whitaker Joins Felicity Jones In ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’
Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is the first of two Star Wars spinoff films that we currently know of. The film which stars Felicity Jones as a Rebel soldier, takes place in between the events of Episode III and Episode IV. Though the Gareth Edwards-directed film has yet to begin production, it has just added Forest Whitaker (The Butler, Taken 3) to the cast. More on the story below.

| Diego Luna Lands ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ Lead; Joins Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed
Another actor has been chosen for the cast of Star Wars: Rogue One, the upcoming spinoff from the numbered movies being directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters). It’s being reported that Diego Luna is in talks for one of the film’s roles. So long as the deal gets worked out, he will join a cast that already includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises, The Place Beyond the Pines), and Riz Ahmed (Four Lions, Nightcrawler).

Sunday’s Star Wars Celebration panel focused on the Star Wars spinoff films of the franchise. This Star Wars Anthology is said to expand on the existing universe, with LucasFilms President Kathleen Kennedy saying “the idea behind these movies that Star Wars “” as much as it’s a series of events and characters that we have come to know “” is a place.” The hope is that the anthology series will “tell stories that may not involve the Jedi.” We still don’t know much of anything of Josh Trank’s untitled Star Wars Spinoff, but it’s confirmed that Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars: Rogue One will see Felicity Jones leading a band of rebels to steal the plans of the Death Star. Ben Mendelsohn is also rumored to star in the film. Now there is word that Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) and Riz Ahmed (Four Lions, Nightcrawler) are in talks to appear in the film as well. | Star Wars Celebration: Gareth Edwards Confirms ‘Rogue One’ Death Star Rumors
The final day of Star Wars Celebration today brought was suppose to bring in Star Wars spinoff directors Josh Trank and Gareth Edwards. Unfortunately, Trank fell ill and was unable to make the event. However, Edwards was there to talk about his film, and how it would impact the Star Wars Universe as a whole. During that time, we learned that the new teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens had been viewed an impressive 88 million times in the 24 hours since its debut. During this panel, we also learned about what these films should be considered, what Star Wars: Rogue One really is, and more. So to learn more about this spinoff, and to hear what Edwards, LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and moderator Pablo Hildago, and a few other creative minds had to say, hit the jump.

| Ben Mendelsohn Circling Role In ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’
Felicity Jones was the first to be announced to have a role in Star Wars: Rogue One by Disney CEO Bob Iger a few weeks back. While we did learn what the title of the film was going to be and who would lead, details as to what the story could be about remain a secret. Many have speculated that it could have something to do with the Rebel Alliance’s elite X-Wing pilots, the Rogue Squadron. Before that there were rumors of it having to do with the Rebel Alliance hiring bounty hunters to steal plans to the Death Star. Today we are no closer to finding out what the film will be about. However, we know that a new actor is in talks to have a role. Ben Mendelsohn (The Place Beyond The Pines, Netflix’s Bloodline) is reportedly circling an unknown role in the film.
