Chris Evans Reportedly Accepts Offer To Become Captain America

2010-03-22_chris_evans_blueWho says you can only play one hero in the world of comic book films? Not Ryan Reynolds, who has appeared in a Blade movie, a Wolverine movie, and will be in the upcoming Green Lantern and Deadpool movies. And apparently not Chris Evans.

Last week, Evans had reportedly been offered the role of Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, in The First Avenger: Captain America [read Chris Evans Offered The Role Of “˜The First Avenger’]. It now appears that Evans, who’s previously made us laugh as Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four films, has decided to accept.

There was some question last week whether or not he would accept. It’s a tough decision to make, factoring in the reported nine-picture deal Marvel Studios’ wants the actor to take on. Not only will he need to hold his own film up but the Avengers and other upcoming Marvel releases as well. That’s a huge time commitment to give and reportedly the paycheck wasn’t that enticing either (under $1 million).

Chris Evans

The internet is abuzz today as it is being reported that Fantastic Four star Chris Evans has been offered the role of Captain America in The First Avenger: Captain America.

The report is a bit strange because, as is the popular fad these days, the casting is not yet confirmed, and both Marvel and Evans’ representatives declined to comment or confirm the offer being made. If true, and if the actor accepts the offer, it appears that he would not only be entering into an agreement to star in First Avenger as well as The Avengers the following year, but he would also be contracted to appear in two more potential Captain America films and other possible Marvel films — likely of the cameo variety.

Evans is popular for his excellent ability to deliver dry, sarcastic humor much in the same vein as Ryan Reynolds, who is also very popular in the realms of comic book movies these days. Considering the roles that he’s usually seen playing, this casting will see some people scratching their heads for sure, but it could end up working out. It would be unarguably better than Channing Tatum…never forget this, you comic book faithfuls.

Red Skull

We’ve been waiting a long time to find out who exactly would be playing Captain America in Joe Johnston‘s Marvel film, The First Avenger: Captain America. Thankfully the same mess doesn’t apply to other characters, including the movie’s villain, Red Skull.

It’s being reported that Hugo Weaving is currently in negotiations to star as the literally red-headed baddie in the movie. Red Skull was the right-hand man to ultimate real-life villain, Adolf Hitler, in the comics when he and Captain America first became enemies during World War II. This storyline also saw both characters end up in a suspended animation that would bring them to modern days, which is how Captain America will likely fit into the Avengers film. Depending on the dirty details of the contract, it’s probably not completely out of the question to think Weaving could return as one of the villains in The Avengers as well.

Captain America

A list of names has been revealed to the masses today, and this list of names just so happens to be the gentlemen who are currently in the running for the highly-coveted role of Captain America in The First Avenger: Captain America.

Usually we would just ignore stuff like this because c’mon now, this is a bunch of people who are being considered for one single role, which means all but one of them will not have anything to do with the project in the end. None-the-less, this is a gigantic film, and the last before the unheard of merging of multiple juggernaut Marvel Studios franchises in The Avengers, so we figured you might be interested in knowing just who might become your new Captain.

The names included are certainly very interesting and they vary from those you might expect to a couple you might not so much expect. Continue reading to find out who’s in the hunt!

Director Joe Johnston Offers Details On ‘Captain America’; Red Skull To Be Villain?

Red SkullA big press junket for The Wolfman was recently held in Los Angeles, but the prime objective of anyone who could get to director Joe Johnston was to find out whatever they could about his contribution to the Marvel world, The First Avenger: Captain America.

The movie isn’t set to be released until July 22, 2011, but with no sign of even the first casting announcement, folks are beginning to wonder what’s going on. Two massive Marvel movies are primed for release that summer — the other being Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, which bows May 6 — but Thor has all of its casting well in-hand, hence the question marks. These two movies are the final two pieces before 2012’s The Avengers begins its epic descent toward our eyes.

So what exactly did Johnston have to share about his movie and where things stand? Well — a lot, to be quite honest. Johnston touched on the type of gentleman he wants to cast in the all-important role and when we should meet this man, how he’s handling the tricky-but-iconic costume re-invention, and what other known characters or maybe even villains we could see showing up in the movie.
