The Shining Re-creation

Fans of director Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining are sure to love this video. Those who haven’t already seen it, that is.

The video was made to promote a season of Kubrick movies that were to air on a UK TV station called More4, and it’s presented from Kubrick’s point of view as he makes his way through some of the various sets of The Shining, all re-created just for this promo, while the movie is being filmed. It’s one of the cooler promos I’ve ever seen, a one-shot walkthrough filled to the brim with familiar locations and props and characters from the film. Though brand new to me, you can image my shock to discover it’s actually from EIGHT years ago. Yikes. Either I was on one of my many incredible time traveling adventures, or the internet dropped the ball on this one. Hey, times were tough back then. It wasn’t easy to go viral unless you had a video of a kitten with sleepy eyes farting Schubert’s “Ave Maria.”

So if you’re like me and you’ve somehow never seen this little hidden gem, be sure to click on over to the other side to check it out.

The Overlook Hotel Image

A prequel to director Stanley Kubrick’s movie adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Shining, titled Overlook Hotel, is still on the way and is currently being developed at Warner Brothers. The movie is written by Glen Mazzara, former showrunner of AMC’s The Walking Dead, and it is set to be directed by Mark Romanek, who previously directed One Hour Photo, Never Let Me Go, and the pilot for the Locke & Key TV series that never came to be.

The Rundown, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man,, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 writer James Vanderbilt, who is a producer on the Shining prequel, spoke recently about it and had nothing but praise for Mazzara and Romanek and the way the movie is shaping up. See what he had to say below.

The Shining Image (1980)

IKEA is in the Halloween spirit, as can be seen in the furniture store’s latest commercial.

The commercial is a homage to the late Stanley Kubrick’s classic adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining, recreating the famous scene in which Danny rides around the Overlook Hotel on his Big Wheel tricycle before coming face-to-face with those nightmare-inducing ghost twins.

You can watch the commercial below.

Encore Presents The Stephen King Collection

Stephen King‘s birthday is September 21st, but it’s the fans who will receive gifts! Encore TV will show one Stephen King movie a night (sometimes one part a night) through September 30th, and on Mr. King’s actual birthday there will be an all-day marathon starting at 8AM.

Check out the full schedule here below.

It is not every Stephen King movie and there are some notable ones missing, but if every single one was my favorite, I would not leave the house in September at all! You do get to enjoy The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the worst game show ever, and Secret Window with Johnny Depp as an author accused of plagiarism and then terrorized for it by an excellent John Turturro. Salem’s Lot scared the crap out of me as a kid. Why was I watching Salem’s Lot as a kid? Oh yeah — it was 1979.

Release Date: September 24, 2013

Even though I tend not to believe most fan theories regarding hidden details and messages in certain classic films I have to appreciate the imagination and insight that goes into their creation. It’s amazing when your love of a movie inspires you to look at it again with a modestly skewed perspective to see what you may have missed before, and then to try and interpret what it all means. I may not buy into the theory that Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon functions as an alternate soundtrack to The Wizard of Oz, but for every five people who are told that same theory for the first time at least one of them will sneak away from the others to their nearest Barnes & Noble to grab the Moon CD and Oz DVD so they can test it out for themselves.
