SDCC 2013: The Wolverine panel

Director James Mangold was on stage at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman as the title character. The director described the film as a tough guy movie that deals with where Logan comes from and where he’s going to. He said that they have amped up the action in the sequel, while finding a way to explore his personality.

They then showed an extended clip of the movie that featured some of the most brutal scenes that have ever featured Wolverine. Wolverine was shown getting shot, stabbed, poisoned, and dishing out as much as he takes. Much of the footage had already been shown in the official trailer, but there was plenty of new stuff in this R-rated footage. Then they showed the footage again for good measure.

The Wolverine Header

As Hugh Jackman slowly gets ready for a worldwide press tour for The Wolverine, the actor is making one big announcement about his future playing as the titular character that has been the face of the X-Men film franchise for almost over a decade. The last time he appeared as the character for a lead part was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and though the film was mildly successful at the box office, it was panned by critics, and even though his fans and fans of the character are eager to see The Wolverine, Jackman feels as though this may be his last go around with the character, unless there is a compelling reason for him to come back.

In a recent interview, Jackman told Entertainment Weekly:

“I wasn’t even sure after the first [stand-alone] film if I would do another, I won’t say never, because I’m still loving it. But there would have to be a pretty compelling reason.”

The Wolverine Header Image

Twentieth Century Fox has released a new trailer for James Mangold‘s The Wolverine, which is pretty much retreading what we’ve seen in the first trailer and the second Cinema Con trailer. The only major difference in this new trailer is the fact that there is the opening that confirms the presence of a familiar character.

You can watch the trailer below.

The Wolverine Header Image

If there’s any movie superheros that needed some bolstering, it would be Wolverine. The first chapter in his origins story failed to live up to expectations, but James Mangold‘s upcoming The Wolverine will try to rebuild the legendary character’s name. We’ve already seen the first trailer, and this new trailer isn’t what you could call a typical trailer in sense; it was edited for those who attended Cinema Con, and although there is some familiar footage, there is a key scene in it that could make the film worth your while.

Two key scenes in this trailer to focus on are the overwhelmingly amount of ninjas that nearly bring Wolverine to his knees, and the Silver Samurai tease that I’m sure we’ll get to see more of when another trailer comes out.

Hit the jump to check it out.
