Tony Scott To Direct Adaptation Of Mark Millar’s ‘Nemesis’

In a message via his Twitter account, Mark Millar announced that Tony Scott would be taking the captain’s chair for a feature film adaptation of he and Steven McNiven‘s graphic novel, Nemesis for 20th Century Fox.

Never to shy away from potentially controversial content with other titles such as Wanted and Kick-Ass on his resume, Millar’s Nemesis is not like the superhero stories we’re used to. It follows Matt Anderson, a genius and billionaire who also happens to be one of the world’s greatest fighters. Anderson uses his many resources to set off on a quest for revenge against those who murdered his parents — parents who just so happened to also be super-villains. This makes Anderson something of a villain as well, hunting down cops left and right on his way to facing off against the police chief responsible for the capture of his parents.

Millar talked about the deal on his official site in-depth. You can read the whole thing below!

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Armageddon vs. Deep Impact. Volcano vs. Dante’s Inferno. These are just a couple of the known cinematic battles that have taken place over the years when two movies of almost identical content matter are produced and released around the same time.

Recently we’ve heard about Disney’s plans to make a new movie based on the Jules Verne classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which was originally set to be directed by McG, but will now be delivered by a one David Fincher. Now comes word that 20th Century Fox is developing their very own adaptation of the underwater classic to compete.

Check That: Ridley Scott Himself To Direct ‘Alien’ Prequel!

Scott&Weaver

It’s being reported that the man himself, Ridley Scott, will now be directing a prequel to his own classic science fiction film, Alien. The report comes as quite the shock: back in May we learned that Carl Rinsch would be directing the prequel that had been swirling around in rumors for a while at that point (Read: “˜Alien’ Prequel With Carl Rinsch As Director Confirmed By Tony Scott Himself). Rinsch is an understudy of Ridley and Tony Scott, and has done music video and commercial work for their Scott Free Productions label, which is producing the movie, naturally.

20th Century Fox, however, was holding on to the hope that things would change and Ridley would actually come back to direct — a wish that has now come true.

The original 1979 film followed a space shuttle crew that responds to a distress signal while on their way home. While checking out the call, they soon realize that the signal was actually a warning, and that a horribly dangerous and deadly alien species inhabits the planet and knows that they’re there.

Alien

As it turns out, that little scoop that Bloody-Disgusting ran recently about a new director being brought in to do a new Alien movie with Ridley Scott and Tony Scott producing the movie through their Scott Free Productions was pretty much flat truth (Read: ‘Alien’ Prequel Actually On The Way Without Ridley Scott As Director?).

Frosty over at Collider jumped at the chance to corner Tony Scott at a gather for The Taking of Pelham 123. Surprisingly, Scott was more than willing to share the exciting news: Carl Rinsch is indeed directing a new Alien, and it is a prequel! Rinsch has only really done commercials and music videos, but he works as a director for the brothers’ Scott Free, and so they have the utmost faith in his vision.

Alien

Little tiny whispers of a possible and proper return to the world of Alien have breezed past us lately. First there was Sigourney Weaver admitting that her and director Ridley Scott had discussed it, but the disasters that were the Alien vs. Predator movies had basically ruined all hope. Then it was revealed that the idea was being tossed around by the studio and that Ridley Scott was thinking of possible paths the story could go. That story and the link to the Sigourney Weaver piece can be found at the following link (Read: Will Ridley Scott Make A New ‘Alien’ Movie?).

Now comes word from Bloody-Disgusting and their source (the same one who first shared word of the Robert Rodriguez Predator reboot) that this new Alien project is indeed looking to happen. The word is, Ridley Scott will not direct, but he, his brother Tony Scott, and Michael Costigan will act as producers on the Scott Free Productions project. Even more, supposedly they’re looking at a man named Carl Rinsch to direct the movie. Rinsch is an unknown, but he’s done plenty of work for Scott Free, as well as some impressive work with commercials and music.
