True Detective

Since I don’t have HBO I wasn’t able to catch their latest hit original series True Detective during its eight-episode first season run that began last January. But once it hit home video I was finally able to pick up the box set and binge watch every single hour, and by the end I was convinced I had just seen the best season of a television crime series since the first episode of the CBS classic Wiseguy in 1987. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson both turned in some of the finest performances of their respective careers, aided immeasurably by the writing of creator Nic Pizzolatto and Cary Joji Fukunaga‘s atmospheric direction.

Now some possible casting and story details have surfaced, and can be read below if you’re all caught up and anxious for info on the sophomore season.

True Detective As Looney Tunes

It’s always difficult to figure out how someone gets the idea that one thing will match up really well with something completely different. But it happens all the time, for whatever reason.

The folks over at Jimmy Kimmel Live are an example of this, having somehow come to the conclusion that HBO’s most recent hit original drama, True Detective, which just recently ended its first season run, could synch up effectively with clips from various Looney Tunes cartoons. Whodathunkit?

Click on over to the other side to check out the video. True Detective itself isn’t shown at all, but there is audio from the show if you’ve not yet seen it.

True Detective Episode 8 season 1 finale Marty and Rust in the car

Hopefully you weren’t one of the many HBO GO users who didn’t get to see the season finale of True Detective last night after the eighth and final episode caused the streaming service to crash.

Titled “Form and Void,” the season 1 finale saw former partners Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) and Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) together in 2012 as private detectives revisiting the Dora Lange case and hot on the trail of The Yellow King serial killer.

I’m guessing that, like me, you still have a lot of questions about the season 1 finale. HBO has released a 5-minute “Inside The Episode #8” video, which you can watch here below.

True Detective Season 1 finale Marty and Rust on the computer

We knew the Season 1 finale of True Detective would be bringing in a lot of viewers, as HBO has been teasing that the episode would reveal the identity of “The Yellow King” ritualistic serial killer. But what HBO apparently didn’t anticipate is that the popularity of this eighth and final episode of the season would cause its streaming service, HBO GO, to crash.

The season finale aired on HBO on Sunday night at 9pm and by 9:50pm, the HBO GO Twitter account had posted a status about their service being affected: “Due to overwhelmingly popular demand for #TrueDetective, we’ve been made aware of an issue affecting some users. Please try again soon.”

Joel McHale True Detective parody from The Soup

This Sunday will see the Season 1 finale of HBO’s much-talked-about crime drama True Detective. This first season centers on two Louisiana state detectives, played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who were partnered up in 1995 to investigate the ritualistic murder of a young girl. McConaughey’s Rust Cohle takes every opportunity to get philosophical, leaving the audience to wonder what clues are hidden in his heavy, oft-indecipherable dialogue.

The crew over at The Soup, including Community stars Joel McHale (who hosts The Soup) and Jim Rash, put together a parody of the HBO series, asking “Can Anyone Understand “True Detective?”

Check out the video parody, which aired on The Soup on E! last night, here below.
