Cinemax has released an official trailer for Warrior, an upcoming original series based on the writings of the legendary Bruce Lee which is set in the 19th century.

The series is created by Jonathan Tropper, who co-created Banshee for Cinemax. He executive produces through his Tropper Ink Productions, as well. Also executive producing the show is Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee for Bruce Lee Entertainment, and Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6, Star Trek Beyond) and Danielle Woodrow (Scorpion, S.W.A.T.) for Perfect Storm Entertainment.

It’s mid-October, which means Halloween is coming! COMET TV, which streams free sci-fi and horror movies and television shows, is offering a bunch of new selections in movies and television series for the season, including a “Hushaween” marathon of great silent films like the classic Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and The Phantom Of The Opera. Cinemax has given a straight-to-series order for Warrior, a 19th century drama based on an idea from the late martial arts legend Bruce Lee.

President of HBO miniseries and Cinemax programming Kary Antholis made the announcement. The series is created by Jonathan Tropper, who also co-created Cinemax’s Banshee. Executive producing is Tropper through his Tropper Ink Productions, Fast & Furious 6 and Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin and Danielle Woodrow (Scorpion, S.W.A.T.) for Perfect Storm Entertainment, and Bruce’s daughter Shannon Lee for Bruce Lee Entertainment.

Cinema in 2011 saw the strikingly bold creation of the universe, as well as an artistic rendering of the universe coming to its bleak annihilation. Audiences were strung along decimated battlefields torn apart because of war, just as they were strung along corridors and offices only to encounter a few decimated souls of Wall Street executives emotionally torn thanks to the realization of a looming stock-market debacle. Warrior is a convincing look at a father and his two sons drowning in innumerable personal grief and universal issues, which result in each of them finding out who they truly are and were. Here is a film about the exploration of our true selves disguised as a mixed martial arts (MMA) movie. It is a visceral and blunt exploration into the anatomy of the alpha male. The subjects are the Conlons, from a working-class Pennsylvania town, who attempt to attain through any means necessary an anchor in which they can cling to when the emergence of reality becomes so widespread and ruthless. The Conlons, Paddy (Nick Nolte) along with his two estranged sons Brendan and Tommy (Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy), decided to dismiss reality and walk away from it, never imagining it would come back and eventually start a war between father and sons and brother against brother.
