It looks like the only one thing keeping Lethal Weapon 5 from moving forward at the moment is Mel Gibson and his seemingly hard-to-obtain blessing.
Shane Black — who wrote all previous Weapon films (and The Monster Squad!) — has written the 5th movie’s script and is hoping to direct after successfully writing and directing the extremely entertaining Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
All things now rest in the hands of Gibson himself and whether he wants to step back into those shoes again. My presumption is that it won’t be too long before he gives the treatment a run through and decides, but you never know.
IGN also spoke with Columbus Short — star of the upcoming Quarantine — and he mentioned that he talked to Joel Silver and he’s up for a role in the film as one of Danny Glover’s sons. He also said that they’re still trying to get the movie going and trying to get it on the “fast track.” Not sure if he just meant they’re trying to get a greenlight or if they’re literally trying to rush this bad boy out. Time will tell.

This would be a movie I would love to see made. I felt that all of the movies in this series were great, expecially the last one. But if Mel Gibson is hesitant about doing it, then there must be something wrong. If there’s no mel, then I don’t want to see it. I just hope they don’t go crazy like they did in the last die hard, and make it all far fetched.

I agree. LW4 was fantastic but didn’t end on a closure note like I thought they could have. LW5 would be a dream if they could just build off of where they left 4 off of. I always loved LW movies more than any other cop buddy franchise.
