UPDATE: /Film has discovered a report from ERC which states that Predators will be released on July 7, 2010, which means this one is on that fast track. They also say that no writer or director have been hired, so hold off on all that Robert Rodriguez will be directing stuff!
IESB has the dirty details on a conference that took place at Troublemaker Studios in celebration of a bill being signed to push forward a Texas film incentive program. Press and politicians alike were on hand to hear what Troublemaker main man Robert Rodriguez had to say about the program and the films that he would be able to now film in Texas.
Rodriguez mentions Machete, his sci-fi film Nervewrackers, as well as his live-action movie based on The Jetsons, but also touched on two very interesting titles: Predator and Sin City 2.
Most notably, it looks like Robert Rodriguez will be producing and directing his very own reboot of the classic Predator series called Predators. This confirms a scoop that Bloody-Disgusting received back in January — a scoop that describes the movie as being about “…a team of commandos face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters.” Yes, indeed, an entire race of those horrifying dreadlocked beasts.
This is huge news for fans of Predator who were so heartbroken over the handling of the creature in Alien vs. Predator and its sequel, Requiem. While this is still a long way from reaching us, I can already pretty much guarantee you that Rodriguez will have none of that PG-13 crap; he’s the kind of director that will come at this one as full-forced as possible and dress it with the scary and graphic visuals that a Predator movie deserves.
Also very much worth note is the mention of Sin City 2. It was just announced that the rights to the movie were being shopped around Hollywood (Read: Are The Rights To Make ‘Sin City 2’ For Sale?), but we had yet to hear whether Rodriguez would return to direct the sequel. While this surely doesn’t confirm that he is, it does confirm that if he isn’t directing, he will at least be producing, which is still cool. My money is that he’s planning on directing that bad boy, and who could blame him.
Here’s the full quote from Robert Rodriguez:
I’m going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nervewrackers, a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons.
Rodriguez is MR director, but Predator without The Governor? No, thank you, we have seen enough AvPs .)
