Blend Of Doom: Determining The Ultimate Geek Movies Of All Time

The Ultimate Geek Movies Of All TimeThis week, the podcast Social Blend, which I co-host with Jay Fowler aka SilentJay74, was invaded by the Geeks of Doom! Empress Eve and Tched were considerate enough to join us in a discussion focusing on what we believe to be The Ultimate Geek Movies of All Time.

Quite frequently, you will find some blogs try to come up with some attempt at a “Top 10” list of best movies within any given subject area, but for this special edition of Social Blend, we decided to simply discuss, debate, and squabble about (and in some cases, ridicule) the movies we collectively believe should be on every geek’s DVD shelf.

Aside from the obvious selections from the dominions of Star Wars and Star Trek, we had a look at all kinds of movies from a wide range of genres and categories — from movies based on comics, to science fiction, to music-based films, to horror and beyond.

If you’re interested in having a listen to what the “Blend of Doom” crew thought were the ultimate geek movies, you can check out the podcast at the Social Blend website.

Also, we’re fascinated in hearing your thoughts and feedback on our selections as well. Did we miss any? Were we way off base? Have your say!

  1. Some of my favorite movies were left out! Although I agreed with a lot of what you guys said I waited the whole time for someone to mention “12 Monkeys”. I thought Sci-fi, oh i bet the say “12 Monkeys”, nothing. Then there was time travel mentioned and a unknown film, I thought he probably trying to remember “12 Monkeys.” Then there was a mind f*ck category and I thought yeah this would make the most sense, but nothing! Also I really liked “Pan’s Labyrinth” for fantasy. Lastly and most understandable not included(since it was more of a drama) was another of my favorites, “The Fountain.” I love that “Moon” was in there. It was a great movie, but the lack of “12 Monkeys” made me kinda mad with nerd rage!

Some good calls there, Rich! I’m surprised we overlooked The Fountain, now that you mention it!

  3. I’m glad your a fan of The Fountain, I always feel it gets overlooked. Also is there going to be a part II, because when I listened to it, it seemed to have cut off.

We could probably do a Part II in the future. If it abruptly cut off for you, then it’s possible the MP3 didn’t fully stream for you. You can try the Download link if that helps.
