Watch Now: The Star Wars Holiday Special In Five Minutes
space
cGt2099   |

Leia's O Face? For those who celebrate Wookiee Life Day as opposed to all of the other end-of-year holidays, we have a treat for you… the Star Wars Holiday Special in 5 minutes, specially edited to only focus on the “live-action” stuff. Watch it here below.

If you haven’t seen the Holiday Special before, it’s certainly a gem from its time. If you thought Expanded Universe debates and Originals vs. Prequels debates turn out to divide fans, wait until you get in the middle of an argument about this thing.

Complete with Bea Arthur and Jefferson Starship, The Star Wars Holiday Special first aired in November 1978 and also featured Han and Chewie, Luke Skywalker with the WORST possible haircut ever, and Princess Leia singing a song that is sure to induce brain hemorrhages.

The original full special also marked a few firsts: one of which was the very first appearance of Boba Fett (before his debut in The Empire Strikes Back) in a short animated story involving Luke, Han, Chewie, the Droids, and some weird beast of burden Fett rides.

The Star Wars Holiday Special – the full version that is – is pretty much available anywhere on the web… from YouTube to Bit Torrents, to websites hosted by fans who just want to share the experience. It’s out there. But for those of you who would rather a mild headache instead of the full-blown crippling migraine, you can check out the 5 minute version below.

Happy Wookiee Life Day Everyone!

  1. Every time I watch clips from this, I think it can’t be that bad… then I realize I was wrong.

    -_-

    It. Is. Awful.

  2. That edit make it actually look like a nice holiday special. It’s a shame it really as to weird to be any good.

  3. It really is bad. But Bea Arthur’s “Goodnight But Not Goodbye” is still adorable.

  4. Is this for real? I’ve loved Star Wars forever but I’ve never seen the holiday special. Hell, I thought It was a cartoon to be honest…but this?! I can’t get past 1:28 without feeling embarrassed for everyone involved with the production. YIKES!!
    +Mark Hamil looks like hes wearing eyeliner or something -__-;

  5. Flamesuit on—I actually think there were some good ideas in there. It’s just that the schmaltz (not the Swartz) took over. The idea of what would be on TV-the cooking show Malla was watching- was brilliant. Badly done, but brilliant.
And re. Mark- I’m sorry. He doesn’t get enough credit for having the dedication and guts to be on camera after months of hospitalization and reconstructive surgery that must have been traumatic for a young actor at the biggest moment of his career.
Bravo to him( I thought he looked beautiful!)
Now the kinkyness of a geriatric Wookiee watching a human woman vamp was just shy of smarmy. Little Lumpy was cute tho.
Chewie in a dress was just wrong.
