Doctor WhoAfter a short break, the TARDISblend is back, as we take a look at the news for Doctor Who and Torchwood that came out of San Diego Comic-Con, and look at the most recent episodes of Torchwood: Miracle Day.

We cover the major news and information revealed to fans at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. From details about upcoming Torchwood episodes, to the big news revelations for Doctor Who, we discuss it all! Additionally we take a look at Matt Smith‘s appearance on the Craig Ferguson Show; and examine what may happen if Toby Jones returned as the Dream Lord.

As Miracle Day continues, the CIA team have captured the remaining members of Torchwood, Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles). However, the CIA have turned against their own, attempting to wipe out any remnant of Torchwood, and Rex Matheson (Mekhi Pfifer) and Esther Drummond (Alexa Havins) find themselves uniting with the ones they have captured.

On the run, the small band of heroes identify themselves as members of a new Torchwood, whether they like it or not. Investigating the cause and the reason behind Miracle Day finds more questions for them than answers, and along their way they become tied up with big pharmaceutical companies, assassins from the mysterious Triangle Group, and the despicable criminal Oswald Danes (Bill Pullman) as he moves from being hated child molester to a beloved messianic icon to the masses.

And the further Torchwood look into Miracle Day, the more they find that it may have much more to do with Captain Jack Harkness than they previously believed…

During TARDISblend 31, we review the events of Rendition, Dead of Night, and Escape to L.A. We look at how both kick-ass and beautiful Eve Myles is in the new series, strongly maintaining her Welsh heritage at the same time.

Bill Pullman continues to steal the show as Oswald Danes, in an ongoing amazing performance. Meanwhile, we also drill down into some of our criticisms of the new show, from writing elements, to distractions of realism, to some of the new characters. All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and Tom Cheredar (Tched from The Drill Down Podcast) TARDISblend is a mini podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures of Doctor Who – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!

  1. Re: UK version of man on man sex scenes. There were none. The British, we can create wonderful talented writers, but, no we do not have gay sex! Bol**ks! Anyway, is the runour true that David Tennant is actually lighting the Olympic flame next year??? What a coup ;) and not a Heelin Coo. Farewell from Bonnie Scotland.

  2. Great episode and chock full if info.

My favorite Doctor:  all three starting with Eccleston.  They all have their “thing” that makes me adore them.  It did take me longer to like Matt Smith, but now I see what a fantastic choice he is.  He definitely brings something darker to the character.  As light and funny as he can be, Smith can be just as dark.  He has made the role his own for sure.

As for Torchwood, this comment is after I saw episode 5.  Don’t worry, no spoilers, but I am also not crazy about this season.  Doesn’t feel like Torchwood at all.  “Been there done that.”  It is not blowing my mind like previous seasons.  Maybe this is due to dragging out the story for 10 episodes, with filler and such, but I feel at it’s very core level, there isn’t much going on.  Filler can be enjoyable too; I liked episode two.  Maybe by episode 10, I will change my tune, but I don’t think so.

In the past TW was “appointment” television for me, and at this point if I lost my cable TV, I wouldn’t cry over missing Torchwood.  How sad is that?

Curious to see what you two think after episode 5 :)
