‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Gets A PG-13 Rating

The Dark Knight Rises

The MPAA has given out its rating to The Dark Knight Rises, the third and final Batman film from Christopher Nolan, and that rating is PG-13.

Now, what does this all mean? Not a whole lot considering the fact that both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were both released with a PG-13 rating. Both are dark and violent without being overtly dark and violent for the sake of being dark and violent. Does that make sense? Anyway, the only real notable things about this rating are the reasons that are listed for its rating. In The Dark Knight Rises‘ rating description, it lists: intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language. So, let’s look at this.

Intense sequences of violence and action: Well, I mean, we’re talking about a Batman movie with Bane, who traditionally is a juiced up, luchador mask-wearing mega-power who’s just as quick to mentally and physically destroy his opponents through complex scenarios as he is to simply break someone’s neck. So, of course I expect to see some “intense sequences of violence and action,” if we weren’t give this, I’d be extremely disappointed. So, it’s basically what you’d probably expect.

Some sensuality: Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, am I right? She’s got sensuality engrained in her character. Plus, you can’t forget her on-again off-again relationship with Batman as Catwoman and Bruce Wayne as Selina Kyle. I mean, it’s going to happen. Plus, you can’t discount Marion Cottilard’s contribution to the film as what many rumors lead to her actually being Talia Al Ghul, which you know, she’s the mother of Bruce Wayne’s child, so there’s that, also.

(Some) Language: Yeah, I guess. I mean, Commissioner Gordon could easily break into a verbal tirade against anyone in the film. He’s a hard boiled police commissioner, after all. Also, this is the first time we really get to see him as the commish, so yeah, that could be it. It could also be a lot of other aspects to the movie from new character to well established ones. Do I think it’s going to near levels of Scarface? Of course not, but profanity is so engrained in our modern culture today, that I could see almost anyone in the film using some foul language.

But what does any of this truly mean? It means that The Dark Knight Rises is near its complete stage (it better be!), and it’s on its way to being exactly what you want and expect from a third Batman film from Christopher Nolan.
