Fantastic Four

Fox owns a few Marvel properties, two of which will be getting rebooted in the near future.

Josh Trank‘s success with Chronicle has put him on the top of the list of possible directors to helm the new Fantastic Four movie, and David Slade was tapped to direct the new Daredevil movie.

Now, as the San Diego Comic-Con officially opens its doors, it’s being reported that Trank has signed on to direct the reboot based on four fantastical heroes, while Slade is taking himself out of the Daredevil reboot.

According to Deadline, Fox will be releasing the rebooted Fantastic Four movie following the release of The Wolverine and X-Men: First Class 2. Trank had been developing the reboot for the film long before he officially came on board as director. Now that Trank is officially set to direct the film, we can start to dream who we would like to see play as Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing.

But with there being some good news, there is also a bit of bad news. As aforementioned, David Slade will no longer be directing the Daredevil reboot. According to the site, Slade was unable to fit the film into his schedule, which puts Fox in a tight situation. The studio will lose the rights to Daredevil if they do not put the film into production by this fall. Hopefully Fox has another person on their short list, because if they don’t, they will most likely just go shooting in the dark until they hit something.

I’m sure Fox will do all they can to retain the rights to the film, even if it means taking a huge bet. What do you think Fox should do in this situation?

  1. Hunter Parrish as Johnny Storm, Abbie Cornish as Sue Storm. Story by Mark Waid. DONE.

  2. I think they could begin production w/o a director, 2nd unit could stay plenty busy while they line up another. Don’t just hire some guy – wait for a decent director. Spending $200 million simply to keep a property in your stable is dumb. Plenty of execs have lost their jobs doing similar things. Hire Kevin Smith, he’d come out of semi-retirement to do it.
