It’s all but confirmed that James Gunn (Slither and Super) will be directing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. But if Gunn’s previous two out of this world films aren’t enough to convince you that he should direct a film about out of this world characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy, then The Avengers director Joss Whedon would like to share some reassuring thoughts to put some people’s minds at ease.
Check out the full video interview from MTV here below.
MTV, which is covering the events at the Toronto International Film Festival, spoke to Whedon, who was there to push his latest film Much To Do About Nothing. There he said Gunn makes him think it will work. He explains that Gunn may be so off the wall and so crazy, but his intelligence is what allows him to have a grasp on the material and give it heart.
Now that’s what I like to hear, especially from the man who could potentially add these heroes into The Avengers 2. Then Whedon reassures fans again that although Gunn may have a twisted take on Rocket Raccoon, but that it all comes from a real love of the material. Gunn is going to make a napalm loving and gun toting space raccoon more lovable? Is that even possible? I am even more intrigued to see what Gunn can bring to this unique character.
The last portions of the interview confirm that Gunn is involved in the script work for Guardians of the Galaxy, but whether or not he will be directing remains to be seen. Whedon says that Gunn has barely started to work on the draft that was already written and that he wants Gunn to make it is own. But it’s not a huge surprise to hear that Whedon has taken a peek at the script, since Thanos made an appearance in The Avengers and could possibly be the villain for Guardians of the Galaxy.
