In the 2005 movie Sin City, Michael Clarke Duncan played a bad dude named Manute, who had a run in with Dwight (Clive Owen), Gail (Rosario Dawson), and her girls.
The character will also be part of the upcoming long awaited sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, but, due to the sad and unexpected death of Clarke Duncan, a replacement was necessary.
It’s being reported that Dennis Haysbert, star of the hit TV series 24 and movies like Major League, has entered into negotiations to step into the role.
In a statement from co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, who also created the graphic novels from which the movies are adapted, had this to say:
“Manute is a character that has been part of the heart of the Sin City tales, and the late Michael Clarke Duncan beautifully established that role onscreen.
We could not tell the story of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For without Manute and are thrilled to welcome Dennis Haysbert to the cast.”
Other returning cast so far include Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, and Jaime King. Sucker Punch star Jamie Chung joins the cast as well, replacing Devon Aoki as deadly little Miho.

While Dennis Haysbert is a terrific actor and he was awesome as President David Palmer on 24, he’s just not large enough to step into the big shoes of the late great Michael Clarke Duncan as Manute. A better choice would have been Tommy “Tiny” Lister Jr., who was Zeus in No Holds Barred, and appeared in Friday, The Fifth Element(as the Earth President), and The Dark Knight as the tattooed prisoner aboard the ferry.
