Game of Thrones Season 2 Blu-ray Image

Are you a massive fan of HBO’s Game of Thrones? Are you planning to pick up Season 2 of the show when it’s released on Blu-ray and DVD this upcoming Tuesday, February 19th? Do you also just so happen to live in the general area of New York City’s Union Square?

If so, then we have a very cool quickie contest for you to enter!

This Monday evening (February 18) beginning at 8 p.m. a special event is being held at the Union Square Best Buy in New York City in celebration of the midnight release of the Season 2 Blu-ray and DVD. The first 300 people in line will receive an awesome Game of Thrones gift bag, and there will be music, food, and other things to check out as well.

But for TWO of our lucky readers near Union Square, you’ll get special VIP access, which means early entry to the event and a guaranteed gift bag!

Be sure to continue reading for details on what will be going on at the event and how you can enter!

As for the gift bag, that includes cookies by Eleni’s and a sigil scarf.

Those waiting in line to get their hands on Season 2 will be entertained by musician Jason Yang, who will be playing songs from the Game of Thrones soundtrack including his popular violin cover of the main theme. They’ll also get to watch the creation of a life-sized direwolf ice sculpture.

There will also be foods to enjoy from Inn at the Crossroads, the place to go to for Game of Thrones-inspired recipes! Foods include chicken pies, pease porridge, and oatcakes with jam and cheese.

At the stroke of midnight the store will open to the masses, who will find the store decorated with banners, sigils, set photos, costumes, and props from the show. While inside, you’ll even have a chance to wear a replica Night’s Watch coat and take the Black by reciting the Night’s Watch oath (which you can also do online if you missed it!).

So there’s the rundown! It’s hard to measure the amount of awesome going on here if you’re a Game of Thrones fan. I personally will be quite jealous of those who win, as I do not live in NYC and cannot make it.

To Enter: Entering is very simple. All we ask is that you head to the Geeks of Doom Facebook page at facebook.com/geeksofdoom and Like our page. Then head to the comments below, link us to your Facebook page, and share why you need to be at this event.

Rules: Have your entries in by Sunday night at 6 p.m. EST! That’s when we’ll pick our winners. We’ll contact winners to make sure you’ll 100% be there before we forward your names to be added to the list, so be sure to stay close by and get right back to us if something changes and you’re unable to attend.

NOTE: This could be for two individual winners but if you make a strong enough case for you and a friend, we could pick both of you as well. We just want to make sure people who obsess over Game of Thrones are the ones who get to go.

IF YOU WIN, please be sure to take lots of pictures/videos (if able to) and share them via your Facebook or Twitter or wherever you share things so that the rest of us can live vicariously through your experience!

When the series premiered for the first time on HBO, I never knew of it’s series premiere until my mother told me the next day that she was watching a show where a kid gets thrown out of a window. At that moment, despite how macbre it might sound, my interest instantly piqued and I was determined to find out what this show was. Needless to say I was hooked after finally finding that episode. 2 seasons and 5 books later, I have engulfed myself into the world of Westeros to the point where I talk about the characters, houses, and history as if they in fact real to other people. It is very rare for me to get so involved with anything as epic as Game of Thrones in a very long time. During NY Comic-Con this past year, I actually stood in line at about 3AM waiting to go inside and line up again to get tickets for Silent Hill: Revelations just because Kit Harington (Jon Snow) was in the film while looking forward to seeing the film was only secondary to my quest.

I hope I can also score the second individual ticket for a very good friend of mine/ co-worker who discovered Game of Thrones just a little bit after me and has been obsessed with the show as much as I am. If it wasn’t for him getting on my back to finish all 5 books, I would still be struggling to finish the books since there was a period of time where I had to put off the reading after I was flooded with work and school. He too stood with me in that line to get into Silent Hill Autographs and definitely agreed withstanding that October chill was well worth the reward in the end.

So why do I need to be at this event? Why do the Lannisters covet gold when they’re already so rich? Why does Khaleesi yearn to reclaim her throne? It’s simple: Because it is in my destiny to go. In a land not unlike Westeros lives a man in a neighborhood fraught with violence (Ye Olde Flatbush, the Flea Bottom of New York City). It was here, during my darkest times, that I discovered the yet-to-be-completed masterpiece of one George R.R. Martin.

Many moons ago I started getting sick with unusual frequency, especially for a resident of a place so full of disease and filth. From 2011 to August 2012 I spent large portions of my time in and out of the hospital while doctors tried to figure out what was ailing me. The first time I felt sick in December 2011 I bought the book to read while I stayed home to recover, assuming it was a minor cold. By May 2012 I had ran through most of the books in rapid succession, reading them in and out of waiting rooms and hospital floors. When finally a fever comparable to the wildfire that ravaged the ships of Lord Stannis in the Battle of the Blackwater took me, I had no choice but to confine myself to the fourth floor of a hospital nearer to my family than to most of my friends. With few friends to keep me company due to my distance, and knowing my family could not be with me throughout my ordeal due to work, I relied on the books to keep my spirits up. While the medical staff ran tests I was nose-deep in Westeros following my favorite characters along a journey that seemed far more perilous than my own.

A Song of Ice and Fire is one of my favorite book series of all time, and I owe it a great deal for what it did for me while I was sick. For it’s service to me, I would like to return the favor. I would like to believe that I’m a fairly competent writer, which would be useful for my obligation and pleasure in reporting about the event. It is known that I have a vast experience in writing, having served as an editor for two different publications in the past. Thank you for the consideration!

I’ll keep this short and sweet because I’m both hung over and late for work, but I NEED to be at this event. I love the series, love the books, love it all!
I was one of the crazies that waited all day to get the free tattoo for the Season two promotion, so you know I’m a fan!

Ok…that is all, I need to go chug some water and find my damn aspirin

I woke up this morning to find out that this amazing thing was going to happen just a few blocks away from my dorm at NYU. I’ve been procrastinating for two days, leaving all my homework for the last minute. But, after I found out, this morning, I’ve been struggling to finish with it by 6:00 PM so I can attend. I’m happy to say I’m almost done.

Needless to say, I’m a HUGE fan of the series. I have all five books, video games, board games, t-shirts, and all the possible merchandise you guys can imagine. I have a Lannister sigil above my bed too. I’m very excited to see what the whole “Taking the Black” event is all going to be about.

As a Film student I’m planning to bring my camera to record all the magic that is going to happen tonight. I’m just a few blocks away from Union Square so I’ll surely be there! I hope it’s not too late and I’ve been working my ass since morning so I get a chance to win the VIP contest. I pray the seven gods that there are still some passes left. Thank you!
