Georges St-Pierre as Batroc The Leaper in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Production for the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier should begin in a few months for an April 2014 release, but the casting process for the film isn’t quite completed yet. Last weekend, we learned that Robert Redford was in talks to play a senior agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and now the film is adding one of the greatest fighters to date.

Latino Review reports that George St-Pierre has been added to the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. According to the site, he will play a villain named Batroc the Leaper. Though Batroc has no extraordinary superhuman abilities, but he is in peak physical condition, especially in his lower extremities which gives him the ability to leap great distances. In addition to his leaping skills, he is an expert hand-to-hand combatant and specializes in savate (French-style kickboxing). He is also a skilled military tactician, having formerly been in the French Foreign Legion.

Ender's Game Header

If there is one thing you can count on avid fans of novels to do is to immediately jump on any and all mistakes or inaccuracies a director makes for a film adaptation. So just imagine what fans will do if Gavin Hood doesn’t get the look of the Battle Room right in Ender’s Game. Well a new poster gives us a slight tease of what it could look like.

For those that don’t know, the Battle Room is where zero gravity war games are held and cadets are trained to become commanding officers. Asa Butterfield will play the child prodigy Ender who has the skills necessary to be the best commanding officer in the field. He’ll be joined by Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Abigail Breslin, and Viola Davis. Check out the newest poster for Ender’s Game here below.

Happy Birthday To The Creator Of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ Richard O’Brien

Richard O'Brien

Happy 71st birthday today to Richard O’Brien, the English actor who is best remembered and known for penning the The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the homage to science fiction and B level horror films during Hollywood’s heyday of them back in the late 40s to the late 60s done with an androgynously glammed up delicious twist, spearheaded by the once-in-a-lifetime performance by Tim Curry (in the film adaptation) as the curly haired Tom Jones meets Marc Bolan meets the cheeky personality of Peter O’ Toole main character, Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

The film version of Rocky Horror (which already had experienced a large cult following as the stage original stage play a few years prior) was released in 1975 and without question became one of the largest cult phenomenons in the entire history of celluloid, taking a life unto itself as it pretty much spawned the concept of the Midnight Movie, in which a film is shown and re-shown and re-re-re-shown to ravenous audiences who can’t get enough of it. And it created a pioneering audience participation segment in which fans interact with the film itself, creating their own pointed jokes and jibes which they shout at the screen, or dance along with the film’s many memorable numbers like “Sweet Transvestite” and “Time Warp,” and actually dress in costumes which mirror their favorite characters. It’s one of the earliest forms of social media interaction ever manifested, as well as cosplay, and it all happened because of the play and songbook – leading to one of the most popular Soundtracks ever – created by O’Brien (along with director Jim Sharman), who also played the tall and limber Riff Raff in the film.

Comic Review: Hellraisers

HellraisersHellraisers
Written by Robert Sellers
Illustrated by JAKe
Lettered by Lizzie Kaye
Self Made Hero
Release Date: January 29, 2013
Cover Price: $22.95

Hellraisers takes the basic framework story of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and twists it on its ear, presenting the story in an non-seasonal manner. This absolutely absorbing and unapologetic graphic novel tells the classic tale in a more gritter milieu by way of intertwining the biographies of four of the most rabble rousing drunken playboy European actors of all time – Richard Burton, Oliver Reed, Richard Harris, and Peter O’Toole – and depicts them as sort of ghosts of decadent past (and in O’Toole’s case, right up to the present day) to help mentor and tutor a young everyman who is headed on the same paths that pretty much destroyed the aforementioned men.

The book, written by Robert Sellers and illustrated vividly and wildly in stark black and white by JAKe, is a tense, turgid, infectious, and hard to put down ride through the four men’s lives, a ride that has the top down, without seatbelts, and going an out-of-control 120 miles per hour.
