The first trailer for Universal Pictures’ R.I.P.D. from director Robert Schwentke‘s (Red) has finally hit the web. Describing a film like R.I.P.D. is pretty simple actually, it’s a lot like Men in Black, but instead of aliens, the dead is what is causing the trouble.
Ryan Reynolds stars as a recently dead FBI agent who is recruiter into the R.I.P.D. (the Rest In Peace Department) to round up the dead who refuse to stay dead. Guiding him will be a salty silver tongue lawman (Jeff Bridges).

Looking at the trailer, it’s not hard to make the comparisons between this film and Men in Black. Reynolds plays a rookie cop who is still getting used to the idea that he isn’t dead and he has to apprehend the dead, and Bridges plays the experienced lawman. The dead also look interesting, especially the one with multiple eyes.
I like the chemistry between Reynolds and Bridges as the two have great banter in the trailer. But R.I.P.D. is going to need much more than chemistry and banter for this to be a hit.
Here’s a synopsis:
Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds headline the 3D supernatural action-adventure R.I.P.D. as two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side.
R.I.P.D. opens in theaters on July 19th.
