| Robert Schwentke Will Not Direct ‘The Divergent Series: Ascendant’
Lionsgate just closed the book on The Hunger Games quadrilogy last year, but they are still working The Divergent Series, another quadrilogy of a popular YA novel, with Summit Entertainment. Though the norm is to try to get a director locked into directing some if not all of the installments of the franchise, it appears that Robert Schwentke has had enough working on The Divergent Series, and will stop directing the films after its penultimate installment, The Divergent Series: Alligent. According to a new report, Schwentke has dropped out of directing The Divergent: Ascendant, the final film of the franchise, which is a bit strange because the adaptation of the final book was split into two films, and most directors actually stick around until the end. More on the story below.

| ‘RED’ Director Robert Schwentke In Talks To Helm Disney’s ‘The Finest Hours’Both RED and the soon to be released R.I.P.D. are rich in action and comedy, but for Robert Schwentke‘s next directorial effort, there could a huge change of pace. Rather than direct another adaptation of a comic book, the director has entered talks to helm a film based on a true story for the Disney company. The Finest Hours centers on a story of U.S. Coast Guard’s heroic efforts to rescue two oil tankers during a blizzard in 1952. THR reports that James Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter) penned the script for The Finest Hours from the 2009 book of the same name, which was written by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. In 1952, 84 sea men struggled to survive when their ship was struck by the most brutal nor’easter in years. As a result, the Atlantic froze over and produced some of the worst winter winds and The U.S. Coast Guard was sent in for a rescue.

| ‘R.I.P.D.’ Trailer: Think ‘Men In Black,’ Only Everyone’s DeadThe first trailer for Universal Pictures’ R.I.P.D. from director Robert Schwentke‘s (Red) has finally hit the web. Describing a film like R.I.P.D. is pretty simple actually, it’s a lot like Men in Black, but instead of aliens, the dead is what is causing the trouble. Ryan Reynolds stars as a recently dead FBI agent who is recruiter into the R.I.P.D. (the Rest In Peace Department) to round up the dead who refuse to stay dead. Guiding him will be a salty silver tongue lawman (Jeff Bridges). Hit the jump to see the entire trailer.

| Watch Now: Willis, Malkovich & Mirren Are Together Again In The ‘RED 2’ Teaser Trailer |
|
Bruce Willis is back as retired government operative Frank Moses along with John Malkovich and Helen Mirren as his fellow aging but still lethal colleagues Marvin and Victoria, respectively, and Mary Louise Parker as his game civilian lady love Sarah in RED 2, the sequel to the 2010 action-comedy that was a box office smash around the world. The movie won’t hit theater screens until this summer, but Summit Entertainment has nonetheless released the first teaser trailer. You can watch it here below. Joining the action this time around are Oscar winners Catherine Zeta-Jones and Anthony Hopkins and Byung-hun Lee of I Saw the Devil and the G.I. Joe movies. It looks like once again Frank’s peaceful retired existence is being interrupted by a ton of globe-trotting mayhem and dodging multiple assassination attempts. Thus the time has come for Mirren, also an Oscar honoree, to break out the heavy artillery and Malkovich (MALKOVICH!!) to indulge in some of that crowd-pleasing loony schtick that made his character such a hoot to watch in the original.
