SDCC 2013: Breaking Bad panel: Bryan Cranston 04

Actor Bryan Cranston receives mail from fans, as you might imagine any celebrity does. Sometimes it’s an e-mail and sometimes it’s actual mail. And sometimes it’s a little erotic.

But usually it’s not Sir Anthony Hopkins. Usually.

An e-mail has been making its way around the ‘net that appears to be from Hopkins to Cranston, in which the former praises the latter’s work on the recently ended AMC hit Breaking Bad, as well as his fellow cast and crew. It’s easy to dismiss such things as a hoax, but according to sources close to Hopkins, it’s the real deal.

You can read Hopkins’ e-mail to Cranston below.

Kickstarter Spotlight: Tara Normal

As I write up more and more of these Kickstarter campaigns, I find myself amazed at the way the public has embraced this as a viable way to fund projects. So many more artists and creators are able to self-publish their work. I can’t help out as much as I would like to, but I do my share as I’m sure many of you do. Therefore, it’s my pleasure to be able to occasionally show one off in the hopes that you will find it as interesting as I do. Howie Noel‘s Kickstarter campaign for his webcomic character, Tara Normal has all the makings of a fun and entertaining read with more than just a twist of originality.

Centered around Tara Normal, the graphic novel that Howie wants to create with this campaign is going to focus on Tara solving the mystery of her mother’s death. Already an paranormal investigator who has proven that ghosts exist, she will explore how this all affects her world and the people in it. And part of this quest will involve the rescue of a group called the Ghost Soldiers who find themselves trapped in the most haunted place in the world, St. Catherine of Siena (an abandoned mental hospital), and only Tara can save them! Luckily, Tara is a pretty strong willed young lady who is used to kicking paranormal butt.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

As the Oscars continue to scramble to find something that resembles a rating stability, the Golden Globes have locked 2013 hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for two more Golden Globe shows. This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone seeing that the ceremony they hosted was a critical hit and a huge ratings boost – a 28 percent jump in the 18-49 demo if you are keeping track.

Below is a video of their opening monologue to remind you why these two are so hilarious and why NBC and Dick Clark Productions would want these two to host two more times.

For those anime fans that have been sleeping under a rock all summer, the anime series Kill la Kill has begun streaming on Crunchyroll this month. The series was heavily hyped this summer by fledgling animation studio Trigger, who produced the brilliant one-shot animation Little Witch Academia, also available on Crunchyroll.

Directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi of Gurren Lagann fame, Kill la Kill’s setting is Honnouji Academy, a post-apocalyptic neo-fascist school run by a militaristic student council under the command of its autocratic president, Satsuki Kiryuin. The school’s Disciplinary Committee Chair, Ira Gamagoori, enforces Kiryuin’s iron-fisted rule. “Fear is Freedom! Subjugation is Liberation!” Kiryuin declaims loudly from the parapets as the student body and faculty cower in abject terror below.
