The first trailer for the Indiegogo-funded documentary DOOMED! The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s “The Fantastic Four” has made its debut. You can check it out here below.
Marty Langford‘s documentary purports to tell the candid and comprehensive story of the making of the low-budget Fantastic Four adaptation that was filmed in 1992 and scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release two years later until it was revealed that producer Bernd Eichinger had only made it in order to hold onto the rights to Marvel Comics’ first family of superheroes and had the finished film shelved forever. It has since been seen by many through bootlegs sold online and at comic book conventions. You can even watch it in full on YouTube!
Langford conducted interviews with many of the film’s principal players including producer Roger Corman, director Oley Sassoon, and actors Alex Hyde-White, Rebecca Staab, Jay Underwood, Michael Bailey Smith, Joseph Culp, and Carl Ciarfalio. DOOMED! will also feature copious behind-the-scenes footage from the original shoot. Maybe if this film finds an audience it will result in the ’92 Fantastic Four finally seeing an official release. One can hope anyway, and that one is me. I happen to prefer it to those bloated monstrosities 20th Century Fox released almost a decade ago.
DOOMED! is still in production and doesn’t have a release date yet though the filmmakers are hoping for sometime this summer. In the meantime you can keep up with its progress at the film’s official website and Twitter feed.
