While Netflix’s 13-episode adaptation of Marvel’s Daredevil may have recently lost a showrunner in Drew Goddard, who will instead focus on directing the Sinister Six movie, the project is moving full steam ahead with word of the series’ star.
It’s being reported that Charlie Cox has been cast in the lead role of Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer who also fights crime as the Man Without Fear. Cox is best known as the male lead in Matthew Vaughn’s Neil Gaiman adaptation, Stardust, and as Owen Slater on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Other titles he’s appeared in include The Merchant of Venice, Casanova, and Stone of Destiny.
The news was first reported as a rumor by Latino Review, and later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
After Goddard departed Daredevil a new showrunner was quickly brought in to replace him in Steven S. DeKnight, who ran Spartacus for Starz. Goddard will, however, remain part of the project as an executive producer.
