The rumors as to who could play Rick Flag in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad continues to mount. Following Friday’s report that Joel Edgerton and Jon Bernthal were in contention for the role that Tom Hardy walked away from and Jake Gyllenhaal passed on, comes a new rumor that Karl Urban is in talks for the role. The Dredd star is also reportedly circling a role in the Aquaman film, which has yet to decide on a script.
In addition to the Rick Flag news, we are also getting a clarification on who Gary Sinise may be playing, as well as the film possibly adding Ed Harris and Max Martini. More on their roles after the jump.
JoBlo says that Urban is up for two different roles in the same comic book universe. Aquaman has multiple scripts, and depending on which one WB decides to go with, it’s very possible that Urban may have to pass on Rick Flag. Of course the same could happen for the reverse. Remember, it just all depends on what WB and Urban decide to do.
The site also mentions that casting for the film is not complete. According to them, Ed Harris and Max Martini are up for the role of Rick Flag Sr.
Early rumors pegged Gary Sinise as the actor to portray General Eiling. However, JoBlo says they are hearing that the rumor is the wrong, and that he could actually be playing General Lane, Lois Lane’s father. In addition, WB is looking for actors who could play Thinker. The studio was considering Geoffrey Rush for the role, before he passed on it.
It was previously mentioned that Joe Manganiello was on the shortlist for the role of Deathstroke. Sources close to JoBlo say that Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) is also being considered. According to them, Deathstroke will not be a part of the team, but rather a competitor of the Suicide Squad.
To further solidify that Batman and the Joker (Jared Leto) are established characters in the DC Cinematic Universe that WB is creating, it is rumored that the Joker is being written as a character covered in scars due to his numerous battles with Batman. He will also have an unfriendly personality as “everyone will be afraid of him.” Joker will also play “mind games with people and twists [their] minds.”
Cara Delevingne‘s The Enchantress is apparently an important character to the film, as it is being revealed that her role is pivotal to the film’s “crazy” prison riot finale.
Finally, Batman’s cameo all depends on Ben Affleck’s schedule. We may be able to see him in the flesh, which would then lead-in to the solo film. However, if they are unable to accommodate for Affleck’s schedule, the cameo may be reduced to something else. But what is being rumored is that Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is after Batman for something.
JoBlo reiterates that what they are hearing should be considered a rumor until it is confirmed.
