Last week on Gotham 1.12 “What the Little Bird Told Him” (spoilers!!!!), Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) rolled the dice with his and Harvey’s (Donal Logue) careers, as he guaranteed they would bring in the Arkham escapee Gruber to the Commissioner. He, in turn, only gave them 24 hours or they would be assigned to Arkham forever. This “electrifying” episode also had Fish Mooney’s (Jada Pinkett-Smith) plan blow up in her face as Falcone (John Dorman) remembered what he had forgotten in the face of Liza’s betrayal. Penguin’s (Robin Lord Tayor) revenge has come to gleeful fruition.
Gotham 1.13 “Welcome Back, Jim Gordon” review: The first half of this episode is a bit slower than what we are used to on Gotham, but it revs up later in the hour. The case du jour is a drug dealer’s homicide, that has Jim quickly realizing that one of the GCPD’s finest is corrupt to the core. Jim’s witness is murdered inside the station, making him realize he has to clean his own house with no support. This is why it felt slow I suppose, because this is Jim’s go-to move on this show. Penguin alternates between maniacally evil and sniveling suck-up, which is his usual move. An adorable bright spot is another Bruce/Cat interaction. It is easy and believable to see future chemistry in their innocent friendship. And Nygma seems ALMOST human, a nice development of this character. It is wonderful to see him respond to kindness from anyone and you root for him to prevail and get his crush.
Fun guest spot from Niko Nicotera (Ratboy from Sons of Anarchy) as a crooked cop.
