Fox’s Batman prequel television series Gotham has been very proactive with the villain hints. We think we’ve heard the Joker laugh; have peeped the Scarecrow origins; met Ivy Pepper (Claire Foley), who is already a bit unhinged; have fallen in love with Cat (Camren Bicondova); feel sorry for Nygma (Cory Michael Smith); and have been all in with Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), the most developed Batman villain to date. Episode 1.2 “Selina Kyle” revealed that The Dollmaker was behind everything, but we did not get to see him. GoD reported that he is coming back and will be seen soon as Colm Feore was cast in that role. We also got to meet Harvey Dent aka Two-Face (Nicholas D’Agosto), who has revealed his double-sided tendencies already. We are still awaiting Mr. Freeze (I, for one, really hope he comes with the Schwarzenegger lines).
Now Gotham will give us a hint of the good in the future, namely in some new images released from episode 16, “The Blind Fortune Teller,” which you can view here below along with a promo video for the episode.
The upcoming episode finds Jim (Ben McKenzie), Harvey (Donal Logue), and Dr. Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) conducting an investigation at the circus, after Dr. Thompkins asks Jim out on that date. The course of this inquiry leads them to John Grayson, played by Robert Gorrie (One Life to Live) famous in the Batman universe as the father of Robin aka Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne’s alter ego Batman’s sidekick. IMDB also lists Abbie Snee as Mary Lloyd, Richard Grayson’s future mother. Now while it is way, way too early for Robin to be even a thought in his father’s head, we will get to see where future Robin/Nightwing/Grayson began.
Some critics think all the hints of the future of Gotham are too much, but I know, as a fan, it’s one of the aspects of the show I enjoy the most.
On Feb. 16, Gotham City turns into a three-ring circus when a clown attack traps Gordon and Dr. Thompkins (guest star Morena Baccarin) under the Big Top, and Gordon meets John Grayson (guest star Rob Gorrie), the father of the future Robin.
Gotham 1.16 “The Blind Fortune Teller,” airs Monday, February 16, 2015 at 8pm.
