We are 364 days away from seeing Ryan Reynolds reprise the titular role of Deadpool. The countdown started yesterday, and now we are starting to see who will be joining the Merc with a Mouth in the highly anticipated film.
Gina Carano (Haywire, Fast and Furious 6) will be joining the X-Men Universe as a new mutant called Angel Dust, who has connections to the Morlocks. Also joining them will be the mutant Colossus. Hit the jump for more.
THR was the first to report the news. In the film, Gina Carano will be Angel Dust, a mutant who was first introduced in 2002.Created by Geoff Johns and Shawn Martinbrough, Angel Dust is associated with the Morlocks, a group of mutants who live in the underground tunnels of New York because they feel ostracized. She possesses the ability to chemically supercharge her adrenaline levels at will, thus giving her the ability to have superhuman strength, but only for a certain amount of time.
We will also be seeing Colossus in the film, but the trade says that it is unknown if Daniel Cudmore will reprise that role.
Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller, and will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner, with a script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
As previously reported, the film will distance itself from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where Reynolds first appeared on screen as Deadpool, and it appears that how Wade Wilson became Deadpool will undergo some changes as well. According to the report, Deadpool is “dying of cancer, and undergoes a procedure that is supposed to cure him but ends up twisted and scarred while also imbued with super-powers.” In Origins, the character was subjected to an experiment where he receives the powers of ten mutants.
T.J. Miller is also set to star in the film in an undisclosed role.
Deadpool opens in theaters on February 12, 2016.
